I have been trying to find some sort of inspiration for my AMCAS and TMDSAS essays, and I'm at a loss so far.

I am home, my parents keep me busy, I get distracted more often, and I simply don't know what to write. I know that starting is always the hardest part, so right now I'm sitting here trying to find a good introduction....

any tips?

how creative should I get? (I started off with an anecdote from my intership at a clinic...but I'm not sure if it's too good to do that...or if I should just go straight to the point)

Can some of you guys help me proofread when I'm done? Maybe make suggestions for improvement.....especially the English/Writing majors....????

PS. I am not sure about this, but I'm almost sure the essay won't gain me an acceptance....obviously it could lose me one if it's horrible, but how big of a deal is it really??? I'm pretty sure adcoms will care a lot more about my grades, experience, and interview than a little essay.

THANKS A LOT!

1. Find a block of time and some where quiet to write.

2. Outline topics/experiences you want to include.

3. It's easiest to do the body of the essay (main paragraphs) first and the introduction last. Since you have trouble starting this will do the trick.

Good Luck! You can do it!

This might sound kind of stupid but...

The TV show "Scrubs" tends to end each episode with a seemingly insignificant maxim tying together the entire episode. A lot of times it's a good way to help you recollect on similar experiences that fall under the particular episode's lesson.

I know it sounds counterproductive to watch tv instead of reading an essay, but I suggest you run out and get one of the dvds and see if one of the episodes inspire you.

Just a thought.

i like anecdotes! it's always better to "show, not tell"...i guess getting to the point sooner than later is better, but don't make it some staid, factual statement of your accomplishments or why you're right for medicine. sorry if that sounds critical, i don't mean to be--i know these essays are he** to write. send me yours if you like, although i dunno how much i can help. oh, and i think the personal statement is pretty important, actually, in the adcom's decision. numbers will get you into the pool of applicants they consider, but only if the person who happens to read your essay gets some sense of who you are and likes you will you get those interviews.
