Behold the wild pre-med!+pity++pissed+:beat::boom::diebanana:

To improve on your writing style involves you simply editing and checking if your content is correct. Also re-read and see if your essay isn't too dry. Do realize that BS classes like these are heavy in writing.

haha, yeah, i know im being a little dramatic..but still...a B-.... :'(

Your mentality is a obstacle as well. If you perceive the class as just a simple BS class your work will be substandard. I think you really could still make it out with a A, if you study hard and learn the concepts of sociology. I'll say that sociology is basically like studying biology. If you do the same as you would for a biology class then you'll be sure to get a decent grade. I know when I took sociology over the winter the reason I got a A is because the teacher liked my ability to understand the concepts.

Totally understandable.
B- is a terrible grade and it will hurt your gpa.

Try and fix the next two essays by going to the writing center.

Hey,

I know a lot of students think SOC classes are cake classes. But, the reason they're hard if because the teachers really don't curve anything and they have a high % grade ranges. (ex. I took 3 soc classes last semester, 2 were 94%-100% A and the other was 95%-100% A) So, although the ideas and tasks are not that hard, it's getting pretty much everything right in order to get an A in them.

As far as the writing goes, I'd try to focus on starting early, getting feedback from the writing labs around campus, or maybe even try to get a hold of the TA or a SOC grad student and ask them to read it for you. Also, most of the SOC teachers I've had have been willing to read my papers about a week before they were due and give me feedback to make them better. Most SOC people are happy to help you do better in their classes because it shows you're interested in what they want you to be. So, I'd suggest talking to your teacher, without whining, and just explain that you really want to do better than a B in class and you wondered if they'd be willing to pre-read your papers to help you out. Tell them it's the first SOC class (or one of the first) you've taken and you just need help getting used to the way they're setup. Just don't make it seem like you don't want to be in their class or think you should be getting an easy A in it.

Beyond that, I'd really try to take an MCAT class or something because if your GPA is a 4 and you get a 30 on the MCAT, that looks terrible. Why can you do so well in your classes but haven't learned enough to do better on the MCAT, is what they're ask. I'd really shoot for a 35 with your GPA. Good luck!

No. I'm sure someone with a 4.0 and a 30 MCAT will get into medical school somewhere. Its more of a balancing act, a high gpa could could compensate for a low mcat and vice versa. They will not give you a hard time about not getting a 35 if you have a 4.0

I'm not saying he wouldn't get in anywhere with a 4 and a 30. I'm just saying that it would seem a bit odd. It might balance in their numbers system. All I meant by it was that I think he should focus on doing well on the MCAT rather than flipping out over a grade less than an A in one class. Plus, that class won't factor into his sGPA anyways.

i have had a 4.0 for the past 3 semesters, (iv only been to college 4 semesters) my cgpa is a 3.9

this semester i think i can pull off A's in all my science classes (im taking 3)
but i recently got back a sociology essay and received a B- on it. (i thought this was going to be my bs class!)
it counts as 25% of the course grade, and I guess i just suck at writing essays...I thought I did a good job, but i guess she didnt think the same... Its not to late to improve my grade, we still have 2 more essays, but still...how do I improve my writing skills in less than one semester??
has anyone gone through something similar? what did u do to improve your grade? should i complain to the professor, or would i just come off as a whiny kid?
I honestly dont care about this class 1 bit, im only in it to get an A, yet the professor takes the class wayyy to seriously...

I really want to get a 4.0 (dont we all) this semester, so that I can have a really high gpa when i apply next cycle...
im really depending on my gpa to get me into med school...
i dont have research,
i have ok ec's (about 100hrs volunteering and 50+ hrs of shadowing, 150 hrs of being a youth counselor, 60+ hrs of tutering (not documented) and a few random community service events)
i expect an average mcat score, maybe a little bit above a 30...

nothing iv done really makes me stand out, or be unique, except my gpa, which still isnt even perfect...
should i be worried, or am i just being paranoid?

chill out...at least ull have an interesting story to tell about the crazy sociology professor....why would u take a class u dont care about???????

also, for writing, theres a lot of things that could be wrong. is it technical mistakes, like content and structure? or artistic issues, like form, reason, and creativity? if u understand what aspect it is, u should be able to improve...
