How is it going?

If you don't mind, I have a few questions regarding the demographic of your class, so please bare with me. I realize that the mission of the university is preparing students to deliver high quality health care in medically underserved communities. I know that Howard University as well as a handful of other universities (i.e. Morehouse, Meharry, etc.) have a larger percentage of URM students than other medical schools. I am a white male from NY, but let that no be my stigma. I have lived in poor neighborhoods in NYC for 13 years ever since I came this country and after getting my medical degree, I plan to serve that same community that as a physician. Basically, I want to know how many non-URM student reside in your class and especially how many white males. I am applying to Howard for the fall of 2004 and like most of med school applicants, all I want is a chance to have my voice heard by the admission committee. I just want to know what you think of my chances.

My stats are:

Major: Economics
Total gpa: 3.5
Science gpa: 3.3
Mcat: april 2002: 23
april 2003: 24

1 year of EMT work in NYC
1+ year of volunteering in ER
Will do research this spring in mount sinai hospital in NY.

3 years of tutoring and counceling students
Good Letters of rec.

Trust me, I realize that my mcat scores are pretty horrible and I am by no means trying to say that this is acceptable at howard or that howard has low standards. All I want is an interview and a chance.

I would appreciate any advice, comments or criticism.

You can always PM me.

thanks,

dmitri
