USMLE has sited me for irregular behaviour....

please can someone tell me what will happen to me???

my crime was that i posted my cs cases and ck experience online

i'm an IMG

this was since last yeaar ..... and i repeated that exam that i posted online

both cs and ck.....i've passed ck (barely passed it this year) but i'm still waiting for my cs results......

they sent a letter saying that my case will be reviewed by a committee

will they with hold my results and ban me from USMLE forever"??

Two things....

They actually monitor this site? Secondly, how did they even know who you are. Isn't this suppose to be anonymous. Personally, I think its bull$hit they even know who you are.

I don't have any answers for you but best of luck

i didn't even used my real name online ....not even this name raidenxp2005

i used another one (screenname)which according to them it was the particular list of cases that gave me away along with the date it was written and state

they sent me a long 7 page pdf file stating what i did wrong and that the matter will be review by the committee of irregualr behaviour to see if it is irregular behaviour

and also it seems they have investigators that watch these forums for the spreading of exam material ....and also pose as students or examinees asking questions or anything relating to the exam

i can deal with the red strike against my name but i do want to know if i will get banned from all USMLE's and if they will be withholding my exam results for CS.....i ready received and passed CK

and this is what this forum is all about....i'm not envious or trying to bring anyone down with me but isn't that how we pass these exams???...ppl have made books and home made handouts to pass....all i did was give me experience and comments

You are never completely anonymous. SDN stores the IP address every time you post. IP addresses can be traced to the source.

I don't believe you.

I am really sorry to hear you are facing this worry. I know this must be very scary for you. There is information on the USMLE site here that goes into what might happen:

If you do get another chance after this, I think it is important to realize that giving general advice like what kind of books to use to study for the exam is one thing, but talking about specifics about what you saw on the exam is considered cheating.

The point of the exam is to judge how well you learned medicine from your medical school training. What good does it do if someone who never went to med school could pass it by hearing from someone else exactly what the test is about? Passing or failing should not be determined by whether you happened to know someone who already took it and was able to tell you exactly what the cases were like. That really isn't fair to other people taking the exam who did not get "inside info" before taking it.

believe it and i'm sweating in my boots right now

don't know what will happen to me after this.....has anyone known anybody who has been barred from USMLE exams??? or in the similar situation??

wow
ive never heard of such a thing..

isnt that unconstitutional? get a lawyer. You are allowed to talk about anything you want to.... its called the first amenedment

Nothing constitutional about this issue...

When you take the test, you enter a contract stating you will not leak details about the content of the test, and the consequences of violating this agreement are explained.

If you don't want to be subject to this restriction, don't take the test, or be willing to deal with the consequence of being ineligible to take future licensing exams.

to be fair, our own school holds us to an honor code to not leak written or oral exam materials

you thought usmle step exams were MORE lenient in this matter??

Good timing....the poor kid is all nervous and you talk about being "fair". Yes, I agree but maybe thats not exactly needed right now.

Best of luck OP

Write a letter of appeal begging them for lenience, and explain why you did what you did. If it was ignorance of the rules, then tell them that. No harm in groveling. Good luck.

Or you could hire a lawyer and ask his advice on what to do. I know that lawyers have in the past met with a lot of success against testing companies, such as against ETS, the company that gives the SAT. In this case, you do seem guilty as sin, but so were many of the people who won against ETS. But yeah, contact a lawyer and see what you can do.

If I were you, I would get a lawyer. They will counsel you on how to interact with the NBME and would likely do so on your behalf (so long as you pay!). Not sure how you would go about finding a good one, but perhaps I would start with lawyers who specialize in contract law (they are good at finding loopholes and redefining ambiguous terms in your favor).

Considering the seriousness of the situation I would not say anything to them admitting guilt or rationalizing the events without the advice of an attorney, as it will be used against you. Do not speak with them via telephone, as it could be recorded and they could try to get you to admit guilt.

Bottom line: They have professionals working for them, you need one working for you (even if only for counsel).

LOL sounds like something straight off of a injury lawyer commercial on daytime television.

All joking aside, OP's situation sucks. Hope it works out.

Um, no. There isn't a loophole here. There isn't a first amendment issue here. You sign a nondisclosure agreement when you take the test. They make you read it and sign your name that you understand and agree. So it does no good to claim you were ignorant of the rules. There may be a role for a lawyer in negotiating a lesser punishment more effectively than perhaps you might on your own, but to suggest there are loopholes to be found is pretty dubious. Lawyers are not magical beings that can fix all mistakes for a fee. So sure, get a lawyer to act as intermediary and see what kind of wiggle room there might be. But don't expect a miracle.

Do they make you aware of this non-disclosure agreement before or after you cough up the $1200 for the stupid exam?

Recently, I read a story that interviewed two or three law professors at top 5 law schools who would disagree with you. They said that all contracts with the right amount of aggressive "lawyering" have a chance of being voided. I believe most lawyers are incapable of that, so while it may be a miracle, it is worth a shot if your life depends on it (that is, if the NBME can ban you from being a Dr. by not allowing you to take other Steps).
