While writing my personal statement:

1. Started out with blank screenitis 😕
2. Progressed to a severe case of backspacetosis 😳
3. Mutated into too-many-wordisitis. 😡

I had a whopping 6,057 characters after my first draft. Was able to trim that down to 4,100. Needs to be less that 3,000! Anyone have some ideas as to what I can save for secondaries and what I should include in the AACOMAS application? Anyone else running into the same dilemma?

Thanks!

I had that same problem...My PS was around 700 words and then i tried to enter it in AACOMAS and couldnt...frustrating, had to drop off 200 or so words. AMCAS lets you have around 5300 characters. I would just go through your PS and get rid of extraneous words. Goodluck.

Try looking through to see if you're repeating the same idea (just said differently)... when I had to trim mine down, I found that in 2-3 sentences I was essentially saying the same thing. I cut down on my word count and it actually made it sound better overall... sometimes less is more 🙂

And, although I guess it's kind of common sense, don't say in 2 sentences what you can say in 1.

As far as content... I found that the more general I was in my PS, the more I had to expand on in my secondaries... when you make a statement, support it with an example but you don't need multiple examples to make your point...

Anyway, that was from my experience... If you need any specific help with your essay, feel free to PM me 🙂

Good luck

Thanks for the responses and offers of help. I'm new to the forums and am happy already!

I'm going to look long and hard at my PS tonight, use your suggestions, and hope to have my application ready to submit tommorow! Thanks again! I will let you know how it goes.

When I was applying, my advisor told me to write briefly about why I was interested in osteopathic medicine in my AACOMAS app, because in the secondaries, they will want the beefed up PS. So that's what I would do. :luck:

Thanks, Doc! 🙂

Say, how do you like Touro-NV? That's one of the schools I'm applying to and hoping to get in! I've visited Vegas/Henderson a few times, but how is living there and going to school there?

I'll be able to tell you more about how much I like the school come August! 😀

But so far, I'm really impressed with what I've seen in Touro-NV. It was my first interview and I absolutely loved it there. The student and the faculty are sooo nice and helpful, and the community there was just amazing. (One of the main reasons I chose the school). I can't deny that it's proximity to Vegas is also one of the reasons. 😉

I'm pretty sure I'll be happy there! You should definitely apply. 🙂

You're right, I guess you'd probably have to start school in order to tell me about it! My bad. But keep me informed. I'd love to hear about your experiences down there. Plus, if I do get an interview, I'm gonna need someone to show me around! 🙂
