Is it true that you CANNOT apply for medical school if you are currently enrolled in a formal graduate degree program? For example, if someone is on the Ph.D. path and integrated into the program, are the prohibited from applying to medical school while involved in the program? I heard this somewhere a long time ago. Any insight would be very helpful.

The reason I am asking is because my MCAT scores were quite low (6,9,9) and therefore I need a "plan B" during my "off-year" between undergrad and medical school. Thank you!

you are supposed to be in the terminal year of any post-graduate degree-granting program before applying....if you are looking for something to do for one or two years of your life before medical school, pursuing a PhD certainly is NOT the correct decision...instead, if you want to remain in school, look for a post-bacc program or a terminal master's degree program

you can apply, but most schools will expect you to finish the program you are enrolled in before starting med school. thus if you still had 3 years to go on a PhD people would wonder why you were applying to med school then as you couldn't matriculate for another 3 years...and thus you wouldn't be considered.

I was told by my pre-med advisor that if you plan to go to medical school, entering an MS program and finishing it is much much better than entering a PhD program and then quitting after you receive the masters degree.
