Hey guys,

So I recently got an interview at one of my choices, but they're only giving me about 10 days notice.. is it inappropriate/rude to ask them to reschedule it to a later date? to say October 10th or something because of personal reasons?

Please let me know ASAP, I prolly need to contact them tomorrow

First of all, Congratulations!

Secondly, It depends on a school. A school like UCSF only allows you to change an interview date if you have an exam(DAT/School) or a medical reason. I asked to reschedule for one of my interviews due to a doctor's appointment that I can't miss (and yes, they did ask why I was rescheduling). Just make sure you have a good answer before you give them a call. I don't know if I'd say, "it's too soon" or "I'm not ready yet". But I'd imagine most schools would be lenient on it. Good luck on your interview!

Congrats. 10 days isn't really enough to prepare for an interview in my opinion. Ask them if you can reschedule. It doesn't hurt to ask.

What do you need to do to prepare? I think 10 days is plenty. The only reason I would want more time is to find cheaper traveling options.

Unless absolutely necessary, I wouldn't mess with changing.

Is it UDM by any chance? I just got an interview invite from them today for September 29th... Which is literally 11 days from now. I haven't even gotten a chance to open my school books let alone prepare for an interview since its the second week of school and ive been busy 24/7. Hehe.

Ditto "what do you have to do to prepare?" You can either interview well or you can't, it's not like studying for an exam. You should have already known something about the school and its program before you applied.

Actually no..you CAN/SHOULD prepare for an interview and you can improve interviewing skills 🙂 you definitely don't need 10 days though

To the OP, depends on how significant those personal reasons are. I wouldn't try messing around with interview dates unless ABSOLUTELY necessary.

I personally would go no matter what. (Unless it was a true emergency) Rescheduling does not look good, but with that said if you have a truly good reason then by all means go for it. But if your looking to study a little more, prepare a little more, or save a $200 on traveling then I would definitely still go to the interview on the scheduled date.

I want to share this story because it is relevant to rescheduling. Three years ago when I was applying to school, I had an interview set in New York in late October, and I was supposed to have an interview in Boston a week later (beginning of Nov). So, I called the school in Boston on literally 3 days notice (before planning on heading to new York) and politely explained the situation and asked if I could reschedule my interview so I wouldn't have to take 2 trips and they changed my interview to the day before NYU and I was able to fly to Boston and take a train to new York after the interview. The point is, they are human and will usually work with you. ALWAYS ASK. NEVER come across as DEMANDING!

that's exactly what I did, and they didn't mind really.. gave me a couple of dates to choose from and I got it rescheduled to mid October 🙂
