hi,i just took the dat, i got some bad score, the academic average is 17, the pat
is 17 and the total science is 18, science gpa is 3.34, and overall gpa is 3.33and i am not native speaker, i have applied several dental school such as nyu, boston u, howard u which is in Washington dc, and i know my chance is low, what your guys think? and i am going to retake the dat after the winter break, so i can have another extra 2 months to prepare myself, if i get a fair score i will send to the dental school right awway even though i didn't tell them i am going to retake the dat, if i get rejected before i took the dat, i probably use this score to apply for the next period. any opinion?

Hello,
I would strongly suggest retaking the DAT, just like you have mentioned. Your GPA is a bit on the lower side, and your DAT score isnt really in the competitive range either.

If you decided not to tell the schools that you are retaking, there are a good chance that you will be rejected before you do th retake. However, if you do tell the schools about the retake, your app will be on hold until winter, which imo is quite late. This is gonna be a decision you need to make for yourself. If you are absolutely confident that you can nail the test the second time around, I think you should tell the schools that you are doing a retake. If not, you just not tell them and see what these scores will get you. However, given that dental schools are getting more and more competitive...I dont really think your chance is great unless you are a minority applicant.

i agree with jigabodo... you should retake the test, i would...and you should definetly let the schools know that you are retaking it and when...if you tell them you're retaking it, maybe that will raise your chances up but you said you want to retake it after the winter break. i dont think that will get you into schools by 2008. after the winter break seems too late to me since most of the deadlines are december 1st and january 1st.
