I'm applying for the 2010 year to the University of Kentucky and U of L med schools. Here's my story. If you've got any advice, please let me know.

I've switch majors twice: Vocal performance >>> PreMed Chem Engineering >>> Biology, but I'm going to graduate on time. I haven't taken the 2nd semester classes for the MCAT, but I've been studying my butt off (Kaplan) and according to my practice tests, I'm on track for ~29-30. I'm applying before I'll have all these classes done, also, but I'll finish before I graduate.

Major: Biology
Minor: Music Performance

GPA: 3.96
MCAT: ~29P

Experience/Honors:
UK Singletary Scholar (highest scholarship possible)
Kimberly Clark Bright Futures Scholar
2007 Children's (4yr-18yr old) camp counselor (80+hrs/week, <$1/hr)
2006 Carnegie Center for Literacy and Learning Family Fun nights (~5 hrs)
2007 Habitat for Humanity for 1 day only
2008 Jesus Prom (Prom for disabled people)
2008 Futbol for Fertiza (soccer tournie to raise money for school in Peru)
2009 Volunteering in UK Hospital Emergency Dept (~3hr/week)
Aug 2006-May 2008 - UK Men's Choir
Aug 2006-Mar 2007 - UK Opera Theatre cast member
May 2008-Jan 2009 - Domtar Inc, Chemical engineering Intern (included a lot of lab work--not too much research, but a lot of lab work)
2009 Shadowing several physicians (EM, FP, ENT)
2006-present - active in my church; served as choir section leader for about a year and also lead worship through song sometimes.

And I think that's about it. Suggestions? Chances? Thanks!

i'm interested to know how u calculated that you are "on track" for at least a 29.
gpa of course is great and u def have some unique qualities and activities that make u stand out, the volunteering gives u good experience.
u of l is probably easier to get into than uk, but being a singletary scholar i'm sure u'll be fine, good luck

well, i've taken one practice exam from the MCAT website completely and scored a 25. according to the kaplan review book, which has 15 chapters of bio, 15 of organic, 11 of gen chem, and 12 of phys. I've only learned about 70% of the bio, 20% of the org, 90% chem (review), and 50% phys. Thus, i haven't even begun reviewing a lot of material that i know is often covered on the MCAT. I'm fairly confident i'll be able to pull at least a 29.

also, does it matter that i've done certain volunteering things only a few times? will my camp counselor job count towards community service? i did get paid, but the overall compensation was about $1400 for 10 weeks @ ~80hr/week, so <$2 an hour. anyways, any more help would be appreciated.

also, i will be doing research but not before i apply. i've got 2 semesters worth of biological research planned. should i mention this on my app? will they take it into consideration?
