I was borderline in Histo and the exam didn't go well at all today. This will be the only class I got less than a 1.0 in, and while my other classes weren't great, I definitely average above the 2.0 needed to stay off probation (meaning the whole "failing a class" thing will be the one thing putting me on probo).

I was just wondering anyone else's experiences with actually failing a class, here at MSU or anywhere else. What happens? Will they make me recycle based off of one class? Summer retake?

Thanks in advance.

It's different depending on the school. I would either get in touch with your dean of academics (or whatever equivalent you have)... which is prob a good idea anyway if you're struggling that much. But you can also find out through an upperclassman. You can try PM'ing MSU students on this forum too.

Good luck!

Definitely depends on school, but I know people how have had to repeat 1st year, and people who had to " remediate" during summer(raises hand). It is not too bad. Once you get over the shock, you move on and it is not the disaster you might suppose. Good luck.

Thank you for reiterating that. People like myself get really caught up in the terror of what-ifs relating to having to repeat... although I haven't had to repeat anything, I still struggle so much academically here and do my best just to pass. I try to remind myself of this kind of thinking, but it never sinks in, being that I haven't actually gone through something like that (been on the verge more than once). Its nice to have someone with experience attest that an outcome of that nature isn't a death sentence, nor is it a career ruiner.
