So I did step 2 one week ago! and I'm already getting e-mails from programs asking me about my results.... since my score will (hopefully) come back in 2-3 weeks at best.... I think I'm screwed, programs will have their rank lists out already.... I wish I did the exam earlier!! I'm really annoyed at myself.

Oh well....

Anyhow, does anyone here know someone who matched into a competitive program without their Step II score?!?

are you worried that you failed it? i don't think your step 2 will affect your spot in their rank list unless you didn't pass.

If it's coming back in 2-3 weeks, even if you have to have it (which I'm not convinced you do), programs could easily update your spot on the list when the score comes in.
When programs ask you about it, did you tell them it'll be back in a couple weeks? Did they tell you this is going to be an issue?

I really hope it comes in 2-3 weeks or even earlier would be better! I don't think I failed it, but I need my score ASAP. One of the programs I'm interested in e-mailed me today and asked me about it and said that they are in the process of ranking applicants and noticed my score didn't come in yet, so they were wondering where it was..... I am super stressed that it won't come in on time.... I pray it does..... yes I told them I was waiting for it... they did NOT say it was an issue, but asked for it and mentioned that they were ranking people currently! I'm sure they use it.... at least I did well on my step I (240/97) but still.....

I had this issue last year. Only I had multiple Step 1 retakes. I did not take my Step 2 exam until late January. All the schools were interested in my scores and kept calling and emailing about them. It took my scores 6 weeks to come back in 😡 I did not match. After contacting several of the schools, I was told it was because they did not have my scores. Don't use my example for yourself, just beware that the results are slow sometimes. Since you had such stellar Step 1 results, you really shouldn't worry😀

Are programs downloading applications anymore, or would you have to send them an email saying your step 2 score is in now? I took Step 2 months ago but never released my score and am wondering if I should release it now so I don't run into this problem.

the optho, etc people do it all the time. Besides, aren't you AOA applying in medicine? Don't sweat it. 🙄 I know this is a stressful time, but you'll be alright (you better be -I'm not taking step 2 til next month ).

Nope! EM - I'll call you when I'm ready to admit 😀. I have heard that for those of us who did well on Step 1, we are better off taking Step 2 later, and that's what my schedule allowed, so that's what I did. I'm sure these programs are just trying to complete their files. Can't you just send a pleasant email back explaining you couldn't fit it into your schedule until a week ago? It would be nice to have a PD weight in on this, but, seriously, I don't think anyone would pass on you just cause of that! 🙂

You've done well in everything else and have interviewed at some great places. And, you're certainly not alone. I take Step 2 tomorrow and I'm one of the "early takers" at my school...

Thanks for the comments! I feel abit better! are you going for medicine as well? r u at a US school? I heard from a few other US grads that some people take step II as late as March, others have told me their school requires them to take it either by October-December. I had it inititally scheduled for December (late Dec) but due to scheduling conflicts and all my interviews I had to push it back to Jan. Yeah its possible that they just wanted to know that I am not withholding it, I didn't even think about that....

Yep, I'm applying in Medicine and go to a US school. We're just required to take it before we graduate and since a lot of my classmates have basics into Q3 of 4th year, it sounds like we'll have quite a few ppl taking it in March and April.

Ugh. Step II tomorrow. Thanks for the best wishes! I'm sure I'll need them. 😉

Good Luck 🙂 USMLE II is loooong, but I thought it was abit better than Step I.

Just wait for the 2 awesome days of Step 3! Just finished it today. Here's all you need to know to pass:

1. Surgical patients just need more IV fluid.
2. All young white women presenting to a doctor either have panic disorder or MS.
3. Pediatrics consists of listening to parents rattle off a list of things their kids do or don't do and telling them that it's normal.
4. All pre-menopausal women w/ abd pain have ectopics
5. All 60+ med w/ back pain have metastatic prostate or lung cancer.

(Actually that last one is true in real life too, at least at the VA)

Remember all those and you'll pass w/ flying colors.

And to the OP, programs are probably just checking in to see what's up w/ Step 2. If people ask, say, "I just took and expect my scores in X weeks. I'll be happy to send them to you if they come back before the Rank List deadline."
