I missed the reapplicant box on the amcas application. How will this affect my application?

I'm a reapplicant, and I remember going over the reapplicant box and thinking it had to do with previously matriculating to medical school, as the wording wasn't clear. Anyways I submitted my application, and had it verified. Today, I found out that it's for any person who previously filled out an application, and I called amcas. Amcas said there's nothing I can do because my application has already been submitted. So how will this be viewed by adcoms? Is this a critical mistake? I also should note that I did mark "yes" for reapplying to all the schools I'm reapplying to.

If there is a discrepancy between your declaration and reality, it will not reflect well upon either your veracity (at worst), or attention to detail (at best).

Are you eluding to the question that states as follows,

"Previous Matriculation? Yes/No?"

The box for "Explination of Reapplication" under that section is only for the explination IF you previous did Matriculate through a medical school. This is not to describe why you are simply re-applying to medical school.

See the AAMC's explination of this.

I declared that I'm reapplying at all the schools I'm reapplying though. This was an honest mistake. I went through my application numerous times to check and recheck everything and I missed this. I recognize it's completely my fault, but is there anything that I can do about this? Also, have you viewed applicants who have done this before, if so how did it affect their application?

I'm about ready to contact 40 schools and ask what can be done.

This is what I thought o.0 I'm SO CONFUSED. Even though I am dyslexic, I thought I understood this correctly.

I was about to echo what gmbz said, is that what you meant?

As long as there is concordance between your list of re-applications and the schools to which you are actually a re-applicant there is no problem.

Did you indicate that you are a re-matriculant?

Yes, my mind is melting from this stuff. I had one of the medical schools tell me that the box was just for any reapplicant, but I hope they're wrong.

Take it easy dude! That is only for reapplicants who were actually accepted the first time lol. I think the school you called misunderstood what you were explaining.

I didn't indicate i'm a re-matriculant because i'm not. I also did mark that I'm a reapplicant for each school I'm reapplying to this (the yes or no when I select schools).
Here's the deal though:

I just got off the phone with AMCAS again, and explained the help link @PatrickStarMDPHD provided me. They told me that the reapplicant box under "re-matriculant" where I can explain that I'm reapplying actually had to do with whether or not I'm a reapplicant, instead of being a re-matriculant. This confirms what one of the medical schools I said told me about there being a special box where I can explain my reapplication. Apparently there's nothing I can do and it can't be changed. To add insult to injury, I can't even view the box on my application now to see what it actually said.

I told them how confusing it was too.

What now and what are your thoughts on the matter? I don't want to withdraw my application, I've already spent $2000 on primary applications, but I hate to think I just seriously burned my chance of getting accepted. I've reached out to one of the schools, and they haven't given me a response. I'd hate to think I have to contact 40 schools about this.

Nope, I just didn't provide an explanation about reapplying in that one box I mentioned because I thought it had to do with re-matriculation.

@gyngyn and @PatrickStarMDPHD might shed some light but I believe that the AAMC rep you spoke with might be mistaken.

To the best of my knowledge there isn't a separate essay you fill out in the AMCAS application about being a re-applicant, there is however going to be something on your secondary that will. This would be why you put the (yes/no) section for each school.

The link I sent before explains that the "Explanation of Reapplication" section is as discussed, for people who were either accepted or previous matriculates.

"If you answer Yes, you may use the provided space beneath the question to explain why you are reapplying to medical school at this time; this space is 1325 characters or approximately one-quarter of a page in length. You will receive an error message if you exceed the allotted space."

In short, you are freaking out. Which is natural!

Thank you. That's exactly what I thought, but amcas and a medical school keep telling me contradictory information. I am definitely freaking out because I invested everything I got into this application, and if this is a mistake, making a mistake as important as this just kills me.

Keep calm and read the AMCAS instructional PDF. You can explain reapplying on a secondary if it asks or the interview.

Mistakes like these make malpractice lawyers fat and rich.

true that, I could have sworn there was a different box as well though. Ugh maybe my mind is messing with me, I don't understand the deal with the contradictory information amcas and one medical school told me though.

I wouldn't over-think it. The people on the phone possibly misunderstood what you were asking. Put faith into the AMCAS PDF!
