Hi everybody
I will start my internship year next week, and I have the choice to choose which department to start with, I`m thinking to start with the electives to be well prepared for the major departments..My questions are:😕
1- Is that a good idea?(what`s ur advice)
2- Which electives are most helpful?(i`m thinking of A&E and lab.medicine)
thank you for your time.🙂

Most US interns do not get to choose the order of their rotations nor do they include many electives, so as an intern abroad you are in a special situation.

The choice of electives really depends on your career goals but an A&E elective is enjoyed by many and gives you a good broad based experience. You might consider Rads which is a rotation most medical students don't get enough time in and having skills in reading films (however rudimentary) can be helpful in many specialties; same goes for Anesthesia.

I would tend to space my electives out through the year to give me a break, but then you will be working less hours than the interns in the US, so this may not be as important of a factor. If you have an ICU rotation often its good to do that early as the confidence and skills you obtain during it can help you with future rotations.
