How bad do w's look on an academic transcript. I've heard some people say they don't care as long as you get a good grade when you repeat it, and I've heard others say it's the number one thing dental schools look out for when they are screening applicants for interviews. I have a lot of w's on my transcript because I overloaded my schedule taking 19 credit hours a semester and working full time. I did this a couple times. I know it was stupid. Should I even bother applying? Did you get into d-school with any w's on your transcript? Thanks guys. Dentistry has been a dream of mine for the last three years.

I took a W in a botany class my sophomore year. It was never even brought up at any of my interviews. I also had a couple D's freshmen year. In general, schools seem to be more concerned with how you do in pre-reqs and some schools place more emphasis on your most recent 60 credit hours or so. If you're REALLY concerned about how your transcript looks, use a paragraph of your personal statement to explain your grades and tell what you've learned from it. That's my two cents, others may disagree. But to answer your question, yes you can get into dental school with W's.
