Hey guys,

I am a fellow SDNer who truly appreciates all advice/info you all have to give. I have gained much from being a member of this forum and I am here to ask your help.

I am in a real bind right now regarding my DAT. I am a reapplicant and had decided to retake to improve my chances. Due to personal reasons, I have not been able to focus 100% and study enough to gain the confidence that I WILL improve my scores. I know it would be detrimental to my application IF I retake the DAT and do worse. Problem is, my GPA is not all that great which severly hurts my chances to begin with. GPA=3.06 SGPA=3.18
I am enrolled in a post bac that I will start in the Fall.

My scores are:
AA19
TS20
B20
GC19
OC19
RC22
QR16
PAT19

Given that the DAT has gotten more difficult and that retaking the test does not give great odds in improvement, what do u all think I should do. I applied to 20+ schools. I just feel overwhelmed and I need some advice. All my apps are submitted. Any help/advice is much appreciated.🙂

Retaking supposedly makes it easier to do better because you are more familiar with the test and the test environment. Your scores seem reasonable. The GPA is not as high as would be ideal but with the rest of your application you might be in good shape.

I suggest you call one of your schools and see what they say about your scores and GPA and what more you could submit that would help your application this year. It's still pretty early and they are most likely dealing with the incoming students so it shouldn't be too hard to get some straight answers.

well said. if you are on good terms with a local university prehealth advisor maybe talk to them. the gpa is low and the dat is mediocore. if it were me i would just retake asap.

Your DAT isn't mediocre, you can actually go and compare your scores to those who took the test in 2006 at ADA.

Hi i currently have a 3.2 gpa with a science at 3.0 and general at around 3.3 i dont know how well i will fare on getting in dental school with these type of grades. Can anyone tell me how well i need to do to make up with this type of grade on this type of gpa

Thanks for the advice guys. I am just really stressing out because I do not want to screw up any chance I have by doing worse. Other aspects of my application are very strong and i just need to work in the GPA wich I am doing with a post bac int he fall. I just dont know what to do.....

Retaking comes with a big risk of doing worse but also a big bnefit if doing better. Its a tough call. I;ll let you all know what i decide in. Thanks again!
