Hello.
Okay, so I am a junior in college. It is time to start preparing for MCAT and my school is offering the classes for $1500. I don't want to take the class if I know i don't have a high chance of getting into medical school. I know there is the post-bacc, but will that help with boosting my GPA, AND getting more experience( clinical)? I want to go into forensics, (forensic pathology) and all I have done so far is shadow the chief medical examiner in my hometown. I am still searching for programs for this summer to get into. My GPA as of now is a 2.6, I know not very strong at all. And sometimes i do get discouraged about my GPA. That is why I'm second guessing myself about taking this mcat prep because I don't want to waste my parents money taking the class, and then possibly not getting accepted into a post-bacc program, or medical school. I have looked up on doing my masters, but most people said that is a waste of time because it doesn't really help boost my GPA, as if I were to do post-bacc programs. What do you all thinK? I just need help trying to make my final decision about what I want to do after undergrad. Time is ticking, and I just don't know what to do.
🙁. Please help future MDs/DOs!!!!

Your GPA is non-competitive for both DO and MD schools. You will need to repair your GPA first. I suggest DIY post-bacc with upper-division courses. Alternatively, you can start now and put off graduation for another year to raise your GPA. You'll have to build up your ECs as well.

Should I just wait off on taking the MCAT prep being offered this Spring semester? To be honest, I can't put off graduation for another year.... is there another way I can boost my GPS?Can you explain DIY post-bacc? Would this mean apply to post-bacc programs after undergrad? I am in junior year of college, and I plan on having a summer internship, so wouldn't that help towards my ECs?

Im sorry for all the questions, but I don't have others to ask about this. I just want to make sure I fall on the right path!

you should check out some of the low-GPA success stories on here. Not going to lie to you, you have a very long road ahead of you if you truly want to be a physician. IE: One or two internships will not cut it. Putting off graduation would be the cheapest and easiest way to tack on lots of upper-division science courses to raise your GPA. However, tell me what makes you think you could get a 4.0 in these courses though considering your current GPA? If becoming a physician is just a fleeting thought, I would change career paths if I were you. Obviously do not take the MCAT or start prepping for it until you have a strong foundation of science courses. You will not do well, and it will look worse the more times you take it.
