Hi everyone,

I am applying to Radiology this year and I only had 6 interviews. I also applied to IM as a backup. Now my confusion comes in with the rank list. Lets say I rank the top 6 spots as radiology and the rest internal medicine. Is it possible for me to match IM if the IM program ranks me higher than rads prog? Basically, I am trying to figure out if i am at a disadvantage at matching rads if I rank IM also. For example, lets say my #1 rads ranks me #15, and my #7 IM ranks me # 1...do I get placed in IM automatically even if I had a chance to match in radiology? I don't know if I should just not rank IM programs if it is going to affect my chance at matching into rads. I know this whole match process is really complicated but any help will be greatly appreciated! BTW, this is for the NRMP match.

Thank you!

No, ranking IM programs will not hurt your chances to match in radiology at all. That's not how the Match works. Didn't your school explain this?

I think there are more people that do NOT understand how it works than people that do understand.

Rank the programs in the order in which you really want to end up there, let the match to it's job..

My school didn't explain this to me, but thank u so much for the feedback!
