We are required in my Ethics class to interview 10 pharmacists from different settings .
I don't know where else to find pharmacists that work in all these settings but on SDN. So please help me answer the interview question if you work in any of the listed areas:

1) Hospital pharmacist
2) Community pharmacist
3) Retail pharmacist
4) Nuclear pharmacist
5) pharmacist member (or previous member of) of the Texas State Board of Pharmacy
6)Educational pharmacist
7)Independent Pharmacy owner (or previous owner)
8 Pharmacist that no longer practise as a pharmacist and currently in another profession (e.g. dentist, attorney, accountant)

Interview Questions

1) Name: ( you don't have to include name if you don't want to)
2) Pharmacy School
3) Advanced Degrees
4) Employment type and Experience
5) What factor contributed to your entrance into your type of job
6) What ethical considerations are necessary for the successful completion of your job
7) Have you encountered an ethical dilemma during your practice?. If yes, what and how did you resolve the problem
8) Have you had any relative or friend approach you to participate in any illegal or unethical conduct? If yes, how did you resolve this issue
9)What is the most important ethical or legal issue or dilemma that continuallyrequires you to resolve in your practice?
10)How do you evaluate potential employees in regard to ethical behavior prior to hiring? Is ethical behavior a consideration in the hiring process? How do you monitor ethical behavior after hiring?
11) What advice do you have for pharmacist candidates regarding legal ethical behavior?
12) Statement regarding Ethical and Pharmacy, if desired

You need to shut your computer off, get your shoes on & go out & find these people, IMO. SDN is a fantasyland. If you got it off here, yep, you might get the task done, but it won't accomplish the greater task of knowing how to obtain & assess a mentor.

You may not get to talk to them right at the moment, but you can make an appointment or get a time to talk with them on the phone. You can also go to your monthly state meeting & meet up with lots of pharmacists - they love to talk to students.

Good luck!

The OP indicated that this was for an 'ethics' course...

Top the OP, if you say that something is an 'assignment', then you may get replies to do it offline. (And that may be a good idea to actually have a conversation with a pharmacist due to the detailed nature of your questions). It may seem expedient to do it here, but I would think quite the contrary, and I'd probably actively seek out the answers in person or over the phone if it were my assignment. Some of those questions are just too detailed and professionally personal to discuss on a public forum, so it's always helpful to establish a contact- perhaps even a mentor... It may seem like a lot of questions, but it would go much quicker if you make an appointment to meet with a pharmacist. There's a whole interpersonal and a professional setting subtext that you would miss if you didn't do it in person.

Still, if folks wish to answer these questions, I see no problem with discussing these topics.

I agree with no-see-um but I do think that you might meet some very interesting people from diverse parts of the pharmacy field online. You could handle the correspondence by email or phone. I'm writing a pharmacy-related book right now and will be doing my interviews by phone or email because I'm going for geographic diversity.

I didn't get that finding a mentor was the point of the assignment.

No, not specifically mentioned. But, these are often offshoots of assignments such as these for P1s - a person to go to when you will & do find yourself in an "ethical" situation in which you could make a mistake of judgement, or you might be "right" but for all the "wrong" reasons.

One cannot ASSIGN the task of finding a mentor - one justs FINDS one out of the contacts they make.

But.....if you & the OP chose to read the assignment as a set of "tasks"...then, by all means, satisfy the "tasks".

Personally, as one who might have assigned that myself (& did years ago) & one who has answered such questions...I've found that such mentor relationships do occur out of these assigments which start as one thing & then become something else over the years of education & experience - that is one of the ways I've found my own mentors.

Sounds like someone is trying to take the easy way out. Go out and find these people in their practice settings. You might actually learn something.

In all fairness that is a rather specific list of people to talk to. I mean how many pharmacist members (or previous member of) of the Texas State Board of Pharmacy are there around and how acessible are they? Good luck, I think I would pencil whip a few of those and move on....

Okay, i posted this here beacuse I don't know any nuclear pharmacist or former/present member of The Texas board of pharmacy.
It has nothing to do with taking the easy way out. I just thought here will be a better place to find people to interview. It would have been easier if we were asked to just interview pharmacists that work in hospital, retail or independent. Those are much easier to find.
It is okay if nobody wants to respond. Maybe I shouldn't have posted the questions. I don't mind interviewing somebody over the phone or through e-mail. My problem is just finding who to interview.
NB: I am a P2 student by the way

Where have you tried?

get out and talk to people.
pharmacists all know each other! we're very inbred.

👍 yet one more reason not to gossip - someone knows someone who knows someone.........

but, OP, for your purposes - this network works well. Now....turn off the computer, put on your shoes, .......

You didn't take 1 very important issue into account.

Many people here want to stay anonymous.

Okay, everyone thank you for your responses. Actually our instructor told us today that we can not conduct the interviews over the phone or through e-mail. He actually want us to begin the learn how to find a mentor just like SDN77 suggested. The good part is that he is willing to help us find people to interview if we need help. I don't have problem with going to interview someone ( I am a grown woman and I can handle any situation). My problem was finding someone to interview, but now that he has agreed to help us find people to interview, I guess this thread is not valid anymore.
Again, thanks to everyone that responded.
