Hi, I am in great need of advice. I live in California and I just got accepted to veterinary school abroad. I am currently unemployed and live with my parents. I am receiving inheritance from my grandfather and can use it to fully pay for my school tuition. My problem is that I have a beautiful girlfriend here in California whom I love dearly. I cant decide if I should leave my girlfriend behind and go abroad to pursue my dream of becoming a veterinarian or stay here with her and use the inheritance to do real estate investment with my best friend who is a builder. What should I do? I would appreciate your help! Thank you

I don't understand why this is an either/or situation. Why can't you consider going to a veterinary school in CA, whether it be Western or Davis? Even if you didn't get in this time, try again?

I'm also wondering if it needs to be either/or. Vet school is only 4-5 years, and you have the rest of your life together after that.

My personal experience: I went to NZ, he followed a few years later and got a masters at the same school. We moved back together and got married. I'm thinking as long as you both do well living alone, there's no issue. The world's wide open to you, after all.

The real question may be whether you would be truly happiest as a vet or as a real estate investor. Even if you've always said your dream was being a vet, it's worth doing some serious soul-searching, because that's a long road to start down and find it wasn't your first love after all.

I really don't want this to come off in a bad way at all since I am in a similar situation as you, as I'm sure many of us have been. Nothing in life is for certain especially in regards to relationships. One thing that IS for certain, is that you were accepted to Veterinary school! This now really depends on if you really want to go to this school out of the country, and try long distance, OR wait a year and try for a school in CA like Western of Davis. That means that within that year, you will have to keep busy (get more experience, take extra classes, etc.). What is more worth it to you? Is it worth it for you to wait a year to try for a US school? If you do, I would apply to at least 10 schools in the US b/c then if you don't get into a CA one, you can try for others that are a closer plane flight than out of the country. However, there is no guarantee that you will get into any vet school next year. Did you apply to US vet schools this year and not get accepted? You have to figure out if she is worth waiting a year and risking and hoping you'll get into a US school next year, or just starting vet school right away instead.
