For those of you currently enrolled in Pharmacy school in Michigan

I am 23 and I have completed two years of under graduate classes at the University of MI Dearborn. My current GPA is around 3.0. I am interested in applying to a Pharmacy school (preferably in MI). Do I still stand a chance in getting accepted to a Pharmacy school in MI? Do you advice me to apply to more pharm schools in other states? I know my GPA is relatively low, but I am a hard working person. It is my first year that dropped this low.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Feel free to write about past experience.

Did you take the PCAT? A high pcat score will make up for a low gpa.

i actually plan to take the PCAT soon. would a good PCAT score and a 3.0 GPA be good enough to get accepted to a MI Pharm school? i sure do hope so. also, what else can i now before applying? any ideas

thanks and happy holidays

Its up to the discretion of the admissions board. There are is no golden rule for necessary benchmarks in order for admission. So the answer to your question is that it just depends. Some people have excellent stats and are surpassed by someone with much lower stats but more experience. A 3.0 gpa isn't terrible by any means. Its way above average, but then again you're competing with a group of people who tend to have a gpa in the 3.0 - 3.8 range. Don't be discouraged. That should just give you more of an incentive to try hard on the PCAT and maybe get more work experience or volunteer work/shadowing.

Most schools don't scrutinize grades as heavily as you might think. They want well rounded candidates whose backgrounds reveal that they can successfully complete and succeed in pharmacy school. Best of luck - and don't beat yourself up about anything.

Also you may want to contact admissions and ask what their average stats are for accepted students. I didn't know that yours was specifically for MI. Either way, I hope that helps some.

I appreciated your advice. I sure have more hope now. I will try to study for the PCAT and hopefully get a good score.
