hi everyone...
well i prepared for step 1 in a completely messed up way and i was going to apply for an extension but i did NBME form 2 and got 630. and that's the only thing that gave me confidence to do the test on the 30th of may .
so guys ... depending on your experience and step 1 scores correlating to nbme forms, what do you think the lowest score that i'll be getting ?
and is it possible that the NBME form 2 just fooled me and gave some sort of "fake" confidence ???

I am in the same boat. Got 660 on NBME 2.

I felk OK (not good) walking out of test center. However, more I think about it, worse I feel. I now realize that I have no clue how I did on the exam.........

I really hope NBME 2 was a good indicator.

well i walked out happy because i felt that i did better than the NBME form 2.
but when i got back home and remembered all the stupid Qs that i got wrong i felt real bad... of course beside all the impossible to do Qs that i didn't even think about them ... just marked my favorite letter and moved on !
and now they are delaying the score reporting thing just to prolong my agony. 🙁

EXACTLY SAME HERE 🙁

i mean : is it statistically possible for me to get a score below 230 ?? with a 630 score on the NBME ???

yes. ok fine...unlikely though

medfriends has your 70% prediction interval at 248 +/- 13 based off that score. so its looking in your favor to be above 230 esp since you feel to performed better than your nbme.

I sincerely hope thats true.

Do you have a link to that medfriend website?

Hi everyone...
i've read a post in here , although a bit old, which was about a guy who got 230 and 240 on NBME forms 1 and 2 ..... and eventually he failed the test with a score of 181 !!!
here's exactly what that post said:

"Failed........now what? I'm not a US student, but i wrote the USMLE in june and just received my score report...........181!!! CRAP! I did the NBME exam 1 & 2 and was predicted to score a 230 & 240. When i wrote the exam I didn't think it was too difficult, just draining. Is it worth having the exam re-checked? I just wanted to pass the damn thing so I wouldn't have to think about it anymore."

now is that possible or that guy was just drunk during his test ????

Of course it's possible. Probably happens to a handful of people each cycle. Part of the reason you don't want to read too much into "predictor" scores, particularly since NBME says right on its site that these scores are not meant to predict how you will do on the real thing.

Some people don't perform as well under the pressure of a test as they do at home. And few people duplicate an 8 hour timed day when they take the NBME forms, which is pretty gruelling and may cost some people a few questions. And you don't really know which questions are experimental. And it is possible that the NBME forms have more questions in a given person's wheelhouse while the real thing could conceivably focus on things not your forte. As someone pointed out on a different thread, every qbank and FA will cover the NBME info as it has been released and everyone knows it is high yield because it has been tested before. Other stuff that is fair game, not so much.

That being said, it tends to be human nature to focus more on what you know you got wrong than the things you actually got right. And 90+% of US allo students pass the thing, so even many of those who felt badly after the test will do fine. Relax till you actually get your score.

i was hoping for a 230+ score ... but after what you have just said Law2Doc
i guess that any score > 185 would be just GREAT !
