Going to throw in the towel after this cycle if I don't make it....
Third time reapplicant.
I no longer feel like a competitive applicant at all.
3.65 c/sgpa 33 mcat.ECS great.

1 interview invite so far.

This cycle seems especially harsh.

This is why you got to apply broadly 🙂

Just don't say that during interviews. They'll think you don't really care about becoming a doctor even though it seems you have a very realistic chance of getting in.

look at my mdapps. lower stats than you. you'll get more interviews. maybe some acceptances this time. adcoms know your persistent.

Honestly, you might have a problem with LOR's and/or interviewing. Did you ever contact any of the schools after your first and second cycles and ask them what you could improve on?

This is my first and last cycle. I don't see how anyone could go through this torturous process three times. That shows incredible dedication to becoming a physician, and hopefully schools realize it. And yeah, definitely apply broadly! Add some more schools before it's too late. I have found that the SUNY's are very friendly to CA applicants and your stats would be competitive there, maybe add them? :luck:

OP, I can relate to your frustration. I just want to encourage you to throw in the towel after the cycle, and not during. This is my third cycle as well, and I finally got accepted. There's still plenty of time. Make a plan B, but also realize that all hope is not yet lost!

I feel for ya. Same here. Three times. Did better by getting 3 invites. Just got waitlisted at one of the schools. Not a great way to start the week, but doing everything I can to make the school like me at the moment. Do the same; nail the interview, send them letters of interest/update to show your sincerity.

Failure buddies?

HIGH FIVE!

🙂

If you are too arrogant and pompous to consider DO, then maybe being a physician isn't your calling.

😕

Maybe she doesn't want to waste her time learning non-scientific drivel that is OMT?

That's a fast confirmation of Burnett.

Good luck, OP. I can't see doing this a second time, let alone a third. That's dedication.

But spending a few months to learn it is worse than torturing yourself for 3 years with the application process????

So far this cycle for me:

1 DO rejection

1 MD acceptance
both post-interview btw

applying DO does not = automatic guaranteed acceptance.

I can't imagine going through this process three times--this is my 2nd time around. Good luck the rest of the way.

I think it's getting tougher for re-applicants because we have to show substantial improvement from when we last applied... like being held to a higher standard than the 1st-timers. The questions I received from my last interview were all focused on what I did in-between the application cycles and how I am different than before.

Note to the college juniors/seniors: do it right the first time.

That sounds horrible applying 3 times. Those sound like competitive stats. Where did you apply to?

OP, keep the faith. It is still early in this application cycle. Lots of schools will give interview invitations in November and December. I interviewed until late February during my interview cycle in 2006-2007.

One of my best friends from college was accepted at USC during his third application cycle. He currently is a resident in a very competitive specialty (in California by the way).

Good luck!

Thank you for all the responses.

I applied very broadly for 3 cycles. 20 + schools every time.

And BrianWilliams,

Why do you assume that I have not considered DO? Have you ever thought that I have looked at the philosophy of osteopathic practice and have decided that it doesn't fit me? Or how about that I have had bad experiences with DO physicians firsthand?

Your very response tells me the following; you think of DO as a fallback.

Sorry but, my thoughts on it are not that simplistic.

Your stats are competitive. Are there any possible flaws in your LORs? This is the only thing I can come up with unless you are completely awkward and impossible to talk to.

That said, I hope you are successful. I can't imagine going through that daunting process three times. Good luck.

I find it strange still that you applied 60 schools with those stats and still haven't been successful for one. Are there any red flags you feel like could have inhibited you from getting interviews/acceptances? Have you checked back with any schools to see why you didn't get in?

Applying DO with MD-level stats = automatic guaranteed acceptance.

Most depressing thread ever. Doubly, if you are from California. Triply, if your stats are less then hers. I hate my life.

I knew I shouldn't have read SDN today. My sGPA is 3.7 but the rest is the same as hers. Very depressing indeed. I don't know what to do next if I don't get in this year.

Oh $***. I am really pulling for you. Keep in there, and if it doesn't work please don't give up. If there is a will, there is a way.

Keep in mind a lot goes into this besides stats. Your letters, personal statement, and secondaries are all taken into account as well.

It's kinda true. If you can even half-ass articulate a decent answer to the question "why DO?", it's pretty hard to NOT get at least 1 DO acceptance with those type stats.

Op- I really hope you get in but realistically you should have contacted the schools that rejected you first cycle and asked WHY you got rejected. Best of luck to you this year.

I too would like to know the answers to these questions.

props to you kaution... 35 secondaries, that is unreal. I burned out with much less than half of that.

Answers from a previous thread:

6 interviews 0 acceptances.
Was told that I need to interview better.

I was told that I did not demonstrate my understanding of the medical field.

One school told me I was eloquent in whatever I talked about but did not sell myself well.

Schools said that everything else on my application was excellent.

s/cGPA 3.7
mcat 33
leadership, clinical, non clinical all decent.

This didn't give me much to work with, so I just got new LOR + more ecs all around.

Elaboration:

I was told that I did not demonstrate my understanding of the medical field.

Another school told me I was eloquent in whatever I talked about but did not sell myself well.

Third school said I wrote my secondaries sloppy.

I like your optimism.

Thanks. It's taken me places I would have never dreamed of, places so sacred I can't even begin to describe them.

Please.....Stay Safe.
