i know its redundant, but i've heard the best advice is always to apply early.. so i'm gonna take everyone's advice and do just that.. here's what i plan on doing:

1. MCAT- taking in april, immediately after, i'll start working on my app

2. LORs- got an account with Interfolio.. so basically, i have control over that

3. SHADOWING- got a DO lined up.. my dad's a physician and already spoke to our town's DO.. gonna shadow immediately after MCAT

4. PERSONAL STATEMENT- again, gonna work on that right after MCAT.. my princeton review teacher said he checks personal statements, so i'll have someone to edit it ASAP

5. EC's- got all that on lockdown.. i plan on taking an EMT course this summer and hopefully get an EMT job, hopefully it wont be too late

6. AACOMAS- HERE'S MY QUESTION - when exactly does it open up? i've heard JUNE 1st.. but does that mean we can set up an account and work on it before hand? ON june 1st, is that the 1st time we can click the "submit" button (by that i mean, can we work on it before hand and then at the stroke of midnight, click "submit").. or is that the 1st time we can actually access the site for matriculation in 2007?

I HATE PROCRASTINATING.. I WILL NOT LET IT HAPPEN THIS TIME!

you can submit june 1st but it opens sometime in may. Best to send the transcripts before you submit.

But you have to create an account before you send the transcripts, right?

ya, whats the deal exactly.. i dont want to create an account, send transcripts and whatnot, and have AACOMAS be like "umm, what the hell is this, its not june 1st.. RETURN TO SENDER"

Greetings Human,

As soon as they open AACOMAS for class of 2011 you can start sending in transcripts. as soon as they receive the first item they open a file for you. You can start an account in the meantime.

I'd shadow a DO now. Took my DO 4 months to send in my LOR. If you wait until after the MCAT you are giving your LOR writer about 8 weeks(MCAT scores mid June) which is fine if they are on the ball.

I hear that chimps are allowed to apply in april if they get a 30 or above on the MCAT.

sorry.... I couldn't resist. 😀

More specifially, you CAN send transcripts BEFORE you actually register on the AAMCOS website??

Last year AACOMAS opened up sometimes in the middle of May. I always thought it was June 1st but I was just bored and decided to check it one day in May and saw it open so I hurriedly finished up my application and sent it in on the 24th. Of course, the first batch of applications AACOMAS sent out wasn't until June 6th. But, the earlier you submit your application the greater the chances of your application being in the first batch. Once you submit your application make sure you check the status religiously and call them if they haven't received something (i.e., transcripts) when you thought they should have.

Yes. You can work on it before hand and wait for it to open up and hit submit. That's the best way to do it. Also, for your essay sometimes AACOMAS will say you are within the character limit but when you come back to check over things the next day it will say you went over the limit. In that case, just recopy your word document and paste it in there again.

Good luck...but things may not go your way..as it did for me this app cycle...I wanted to submit app ASAP...but LOR's....community college transcripts really delayed things by a month or two...although my university transcript came in time...

A lot of things can cause delays...LORS, secondaries...etc...

however i made it to one of my top choices this cycle..so im thinking you are gonan be in good shape...good luck..and dont forget to let EVERYONE at SDN know where you get accepted to!
