Hi,

I think I want to try to become a brain scientist, but I'm trained in pretty much an unrelated field--teaching, and I'm in a lot of debt. What should I do if I seriously want to pursue this and change careers?

A brain scientist? You want to study Neuroscience? BS MS or PhD? How much debt? Age? You need to keep a handle of your debts or they will destroy you.

I'd be a heart scientist, so I can study your heart 😉

How much debt are we talking about here?

Hi! Brain scientist here (Neuro PhD).

A good PhD program is funded - meaning they will pay you. My program paid around 37K per year. And most student loans can be deferred while you’re still in school.

If you want to get into a Neuro PhD program, you’ll have to spend 2-3 years as a Lab tech or research assistant in a science lab before you apply.
