Hi, I wanna thank you all discussing USMLE related issues here and I could have a generalized look at the whole concept.Right now I am graduated from Med school out of USA and I have 1 and half a year to study for Step1,2ck though I have to work at the same time. I have access to Kaplan lecture notes and DVDs but I think I could spend sometime on reading texts too although I don't really know how to begin in a time consuming manner🙂considering the fact that I have studied basic science 4.5 years ago, I found all threads useful for short time course but not for a case like me...that'd be very nice if anyone could help me with it!

I donnow where to begin from, long time since basic science studies, do u think I should study text books for physio and patho, etc? I have access to Goljan audio patho, Kaplan lecture notes, first aid 2008 maybe I can access newer ones though not sure, clinical diagnosis pre test, I think it's so soon to begin question banks and I'm not sure if I can actively read books now!

You will definitely want to buy the latest edition of First Aid. That is the most important thing. If you have 1.5 years for both Step 1 and Step 2CK and its been 4.5 years since you have done basic sciences, you will probably want to spend more time studying for Step 1.

For Step 1, since you have the lectures with you, I suggest you buy the Kaplan texts as well. I found it to be useful. The Goljan audio series is all you need for Path. Use both of these and you should have a good solid base. I annotated all my Kaplan notes in First Aid just to make everything easier towards the end.

Refer to anyone standard textbook if you have a trouble understanding concepts.

Lastly, subscribe to UWorld and do those questions with explanations. Since you have time to study for this, you can try to do all questions twice. U World is the most important study aid you can use for Step 1, Step 2 CK.

tnx KingKenny for really useful info, could you give me some info on Uworld subscription please? donnow when to subscribe for it,just self assessment exams or qbanks too? though I'm not sure if I can use it due to visa card problems we have here...by the way have u experienced this method in the same situation as me,I mean studying for step 1 after 4-5 years?by the way, are lecture notes revised diffrently in new versions?I have 2009 version, guess I have to find 2012?

I would do first Kaplan (all "High Yield" questions) and then USMLE WORLD. If you have to choose between these 2: Go with USMLE WORLD. And for the credit card problem: Just open an account and ask a relative of yours or someone you know outside Iran to pay the Qbank for you. You can easily use it there then. Even without "filter shekan" 😉

🙂)good Rashy! so u think it works? u think I should do it now? or keep it for some other time, right now I have to go to Tarh for 14-17 months, I mean few months before my exam??what else did u study?tnx for ur help

No I think you should do it AFTER you have studies the material. E.g. I did USMLE WORLD always when finishing a review book or a chapter (Depending on how many pages this was). So study first, then do the questions. I didn't use any Kaplan courses or videos, I just sticked by my review books for each topic. (You can see in First Aid which ones are good) and for now I'm doing pretty well.
