I currently take IB classes at my school. I took one AP class last year, but my school is the kind of school that replaced a lot of its AP classes with two-year IB courses instead. I'm not a full diploma student, and I take three IB classes now with the intention of taking more next year along with three science classes (AP Bio, IB Physics, Anatomy and Physiology).

I want to apply to BS/MD and BS/DO programs in my area. Do IB classes that award the certificates look good on my resume? Yes, they are college level classes, but they aren't the collegeboard "AP" classes, which is what I'm worried about. Do BS/MD and BS/DO programs only look at AP classes rather than IB?

You can check which colleges accept IB credits on their website, and you can email the specific program and ask them if they do if you have any doubts.

IB classes are excellent! They look really good on your resume.

A lot of colleges accept IB but IB is not too common in the US (though many schools use it) because majority of students apply to college from public schools which mainly offer AP.

I have heard that IB classes...to get a 7 is harder than getting a 5 on the AP, but thats just what i heard.

Either way just put it on. Its not going to hurt you, the only thing is try to see if they will give you credit assuming you pass the IB exams.

It's far easier to get an A in a college intro class than a 7 on an IB upper exam. I'd honestly forget the IB courses and max out normal grades. Doing a few credits early via IB isn't worth it.

If you put the work into it, it can be done. You'll have an excellent foundation in the material to boot.

All the other requirements only come if you opt to go for the IB diploma (or if your school requires that you do in order to take the courses).

If you like learning and have a bit of a masochistic streak, go for it.👍

IB is really good (better than AP) but is not always accepted everywhere. In the future (when you graduate) they will probably accept it in more places, but I think IB classes are a good start, but don't overload.

I won't be "overloading" until next year anyway. Eh...I'm not really capable of overloading, and I never stress with anything that's deemed "too hard" for me in school. I just do it and shutup, and it turns out okay or great. Usually the latter. (this self-policy has been golden for me throughout all of highschool)

I actually just got permission from the board of education at my school to let me take a fourth additional science class along with the three that I listed in my original post. (Yeah...you need permission) AP Chemistry here I come! (There's no 1 year IB chem course, only two, otherwise I would've taken that)

That's cool man, I use the same policy. But the only problem (which I encountered today) is that you forget homework from one class while studying or working all day on another class. It's not that big of a deal, but sometimes you can get overwhelmed.

I like your tough attitude, I think that is going to get people like us through college and med-school. Plus I find that a real nice quality in a person, that they don't make excuses, you just do it, and keep quiet.

I did an IB diploma... I ended up getting no units from it, because my AP scores provided more units and I had to choose IB or AP for each subject.

The IB tests were also a lot harder than AP tests. For Bio I got an easy 5 on the AP test while I got a 4/7 on an extremely hard Bio IB test. I enjoyed IB English more than AP though, the books we had to read were better in my opinion.

For my school some of the IB classes were also AP classes though so it wasn't a big deal. Most of the extra work comes with the Diploma anyways.

Don't worry IB will look just as good as AP. (I would say go for the diploma(TOK + EE!), but ahaha don't kill yourself.)

I am also an IB Diploma student, I feel your pain.. I am taking six classes in my Junior year; four HLs and two SLs (HL: Biology, English, US History, Film | SL: Spanish, Math). My school requires that you need to take all years of spanish and math so I really am taking HL spanish and will be taking AP Calculus.

Anyway the problem is with IB credits is that any 7 or even 8 year BS/DO or BS/MD programs already have a set curriculum and rarely give you credit when you are accepted, and if there is any credit it is toward non science classes, like an English or Writing.

Anyway good luck with your IB curriculum, now back to IB Spanish studying and EE topics for me 🙁
