IBR - Initial Payments

After the grace period, if you decide to go into IBR, what are the initial payments calculated on? My spouse and I joint file, so our AGI will just be her income for 2009. Or will it be calculated off of our check stubs to get a more accurate representation of our current income? Also, if you are in forebearance, say you inherit $20,000 or something, could you apply that to your loan as a one time payment and remain in forebearance?
