Hey everyone,
I took a break from this site for the last couple of weeks but I needs its help once again. My interview at ICO is Jan. 9th. Could anyone post a little insite into the interview. Is it laid back? I'm not really nervous, I just don't want to be caught off guard.

Thanks

Don't worry rpames, you'll knock 'em dead!! We're here for you. Good Luck!!!!!

rpames,
Good luck on your interview!! Let me know how it goes, I still have a month to wait!! I am sure everything will be fine, they are extremely nice and helpful in any questions that you have.
Good luck!!

Don't forget to tell them you want to be an optometrist because you "want to help people"... (heeheeheehee just kidding...)

You're going to do great! Relax and have a good time with it. Good luck! 😀

You'll have a great time rpames!

Then you'll get to be my classmate!

Hi!! I just had my interview in Chicago!! It is the BEST interview ever. It's extremely relaxed and everyone there is so friendly. Remember the name "Anthony". He's the doorman/receptionist at the school and is the coolest old guy I've ever met. The second I walked through the door he said, "Don't worry about it....it's easy!!" He knows every student there by name. It's a one on one interview and they don't ask any trick questions. They just want to get to know you. Expect the usual "Why optometry?" "Tell me about yourself." The hardest person to get an interview from is the Dean of Admissions there, Dr. Colip, and even he's not that bad. Anyway, I hoped this helped. GOOD LUCK!!! It's FUN!!

I love Tony! He managed to get my car out when I was parked in after my interview. What a funny guy he is🙂

hahaha. Yeah, he is cool Eyegirl.!! I interviewed with 5 people and he said to all of us, "There are 2 rules to follow to get into this school. First, don't fall asleep during the interview because it's so laid back. and Lastly, you gotta know someone Italian." hehe. He's Italian and he's trying to get more into the school. It's a joke though. He also, called me a cab and gave me a hug before I left. He was so cool to all of us.

Ok rpames

I know I haven't given you anytime to get home, relax and take a breath--but I want to know how it went!! After you take a breather, we'll be waiting to hear alllllll about it. 😉

I'm waiting I'm waiting!!!

VIVA ICO!!!

Sorry it took me so long to write.

The interview was really laid back! The prof that interviewed me was roommates with one of the OD's in my town (I was going to have him write my letter, but he was busy). We talked about hime for a little while, and then talked about the the OD I did have write my letter...he knew him too! The interviewer graduated about two years after my letter OD. What a small world. It is good to know people. He also does quite abit of research at the school so we talked about my project. I think it went really well.

I met Anthony, he was really great. I told him I read about him on the internet, he was a little surprised.

I don't think anyone warned me about the writing sample...why not! I believe I'm a pretty good writer, but it takes me a while to get going. And if you have not noticed, I need spell check more than I need air.

I brought my dad with me for the day, it was interesting. We drove by his apartment and the school where my mother taught. Then through the entire interview he kept saying, "When I was here we had none of this." and, "This is so much nicer than what we had." and, "When I took this class we had to do it this way." It started to get a little old. It was neat to see him get a sparkle in his eye when we would talk about me going there. I really hope I get in. I'm a little scared because my numbers are not as great as I would like to see them. I hope they look past all that.

The next interview review meeting is Monday and they said they usually mail the letters out the next morning. If it all goes to schedual, I should know somthing by nex week, lets hope so.

I wouldn't even worry, rpames!! I wish you good luck and you have all of us here for support.

It sounds like it went really well, I'm crossing my fingers for you!!! 😀

I'm laughing at the description of your dad following you around, pointing things out about the school from his day... too funny. I'm sure he's really proud to see you following in his footsteps.

(And speaking of spell-check... could you change the title of your thread to spell "coming" correctly? It's been driving me nuts! 😀 😉 )

I usually spell coming correctly, at least I try to. I suck at spelling, so does my dad. My mother and soon to be wife are perfect at it...it is a pain in the butt!

I just changed the spelling in the subject of the original post, but it did not change the overall subject. Sorry! 🙁

Thanks for trying! 😉 I know lots of people who are really smart but are terrible spellers -- my father-in-law is a rocket scientist (really), and you should see how that man mangles words!

Anyway, let us all know what you hear next week!!!

Congrats on your interview! I hope everything went well; I think everything will work out and you will get in. 🙂

I've been calling ICO all day but the admissions people wont answer the phone. I want to know if my transcrips from my school got there before the committee meeting. ICO has everything except this last semester's classes, which contained microbiology and calculus. Maybe if I get a hold of them they will be able to tell me what the committee decided. I have a knot in my stomach!!!🙁

Rpames,

Honey, I feel for you.
Remember to breathe.

The best time to reach Kristin is first thing in the morning. I think Admissions opens at 8.

I've only rarely been able to reach her past 1:00 or so. Plus she was annoyed with me once for calling too much I think...But oh well I still got in.
