Hi everyone,

I was just offered an interview to ICO. I know it is a bit late, but wondering if anyone knows the stats on how many students are accepted after having an interview? I have to spend $800 to fly there for the interview and do not have great marks (3.2 cgpa and 320 OAT). It's very expensive, so just was wondering on what my chances are. Also, anyone know how much of the class has already been filled? I am hoping that they see I have to travel a very long way for this interview and are not completely wasting my time.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

You can phone the school and the receptionist will tell you the exact number of spots they have filled. Also, I did not interview at ICO until March last year and was still accepted.

Thanks so much for that info. Do you mind telling me what your stats were? I am still in disbelief that they invited me for an interview.

Also on the opted.org website I noticed some strange stats. In 07-08 920 applied, 313 accepted, 383 denied, and 158 enrolled. Why would they accept 313 people and only enrol 158? I only don't understand why so many have denied?

Opted doesn't say specifically how many were denied. The difference of the applications received and number accepted doesn't necessarily mean all the rest were denied. Many could have not followed through with their interviews. The reason they accepted a much larger number than actually enroll is because most people apply to more than one school, and many are accepted to more than one school. It's not necessarily a reflection of the school; people make their final choices based on a wide variety of factors.

Congrats on your interview! It is understandable to be worried about the cost if you fear that you'll just be wasting your time in the end, however, you will DEFINITELY not be accepted without an interview. Have you applied to other schools as well?

I think this is normal for most schools. Most students apply to several schools, so schools have to offer more seats than they have because many students get accepted to more than one school and obviously have to choose one and turn the others down.

Because schools have rolling admission, what they do is offer say 50 seats in November for example, and from those 50 offers only 20 accept (because most ppl were accepted to more than one school, and some chose them and others chose another school).
Then, the school offer another 50 in December for example because only 20 seats were filled (and their stats show 30 denied so far), and they continue this until all seats are filled.

I know my wording is probably a little confusing - sorry about that. But the process works something like that and I hope it makes sense. So I wouldn't worry about the fact that it said 383 denied.

You can either
A. Spend $800 to interview at ICO. Your chances are 50/50 of being accepted right now because your scores are not as competitive, and i'm sure the class is filling up fast. I had the same stats as you my first time applying, and they didn't even give me an interview.

B. You can spend $500+ next year to reapply, and $1000+ on transportation for interviews. Also, don't forget that applications are time consuming and a huge headache. You could use this free time to get a job and put some money together.

Good luck!

DEFINATELY GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They have invited you for an interview because they DO consider you competitive for their class. So, it is obviously not a waste of time. Unless, you have already been accepted to another school u are dead set on going to - I would check out ICO.
