I'm about to do 3 icu months starting july and haven't done an ICU month since July my intern year. anyone have any suggestions on a book(s) that will be extremely useful? I hear The ICU Book is good but its like 1200 pages. are there any other books out there?

icu book too long; more like a reference tool.

all i used was sanford/emra abx guide & tarascon's adult medicine/critical care pocketbook. there's another icu book out there somewhere, with a 3 ring binder, but i don't remember the name.

as a good first approximation, though, look these up on UpToDate:
early goal directed therapy
sepsis
pressors
steroids/adrenal insufficiency in sepsis
adult ventilator management/predictors of weaning

oh, and practice your DNR speech... you'll need it.
