anyone know if a learner's permit is ok? The AAMC website says any government issued photo ID is acceptable, but i feel like i read somewhere that a permit is not.

You can just get an ID issued by your state. I think they are issued at the same place where you would get a driver's license.

yes, i know. But I don't want to get one if the one I already have is ok.

When in doubt, check with the AAMC instead of random posters in a forum. Discovering your ID is not okay the morning of the MCAT would really not be cool.

The leaner's permit might be fine, but if yours is just printed on paper like in my state, I could also see AAMC having some stupid rule against it (since it could be more easily forged than a plastic ID or passport).

I have two questions:
1. How old are you that you still have a learner's permit?
2. Why are you taking the MCAT so soon if you can't even drive yet?

Well, this is just a guess, but based on the OP's username I'd say they're in NYC, and there are many New Yorkers who go their entire lives without learning how to drive (since it's completely unnecessary and expensive to park/store a car).

Not everyone gets their liscence when they're 16. I know a lot of people who are in their 20's and can't drive. My guess is that the OP isn't actually 15.

Get a Non Driver's ID. The learner's permit is not an ID for offical purposes, that is, it is not a government issued Identification card.

if you're from NY then yes a learner's permit is fine.
However, get your license already! 😀

Well, JennyB, I have 2 answers:

1. I am 20
2. I didn't read on the AAMC's website that driving ability is a prerequisite for doing well on the MCAT, but if you can find that information for me, please pass it along.

thanks DocFunk! I actually called the AAMC today and (after about 30 mins of listening to automated instructions) found out that it is acceptable.
