ID issues...help please

I am suppose to take an exam in December. I was reading what I would need on the exam day...so they asked that I need 2 set of IDs. This is where the problem surfaces....I recently came to US of A on K1 visa (fiance) visa...so I only have a passport which is authentic ID....I called the DMV to ask what I need to make an ID. They told me that I need Social Security Number. But I do not have any SSN yet. I applied for it but it will take 2 to 3 months to get SSN. So I was wondering what could I do now...I am sure somebody out must have an answer....HELP Plz..................

u could use credit card or drivers license.i think one photo and 2 non photo ids also work.i did the same.but it is always good to reconfirm.u dont necessarily need a ssn

hello toothguy,

u can use ur passport and can use a credit card with photo on it(these days credit card with photo on it r easy to make). during my xam one of the student used "costco" I.D(funny!!🙂 still confirm with ADA.

Thanks so much for your input....credit card sounds the most Intriguing. I could just go to Bank of America and tell them to make an ATM card with Picture on it and they do it right on the spot. I tried calling the ADA but I was on hold for 30 minutes 2wice and no one answered the phone. I will try again....anyone elses input is very much welcomed...thanks

well, i had come on h4 visa on which u don't get ssn. but i got a letter saying that i can not get ssn from ss office and the dmv guys accepted that and later on when i got the ssn i added it

work permit ( ead card ) also has a photo.

my friend used her indian dirver's lis. as her second id. that was fine by ada .
u can apply for a state id which u'll get it b4 dec.

I used my passport, my country's national ID card and my country's drivers license. All of them are in Spanish, but they didn't care.
I saw Indians and Philipines use their passports too.

I called the DMV and asked them if they could make an ID and I will give them the SS number later...they refused to do it....

So I think I will tell my relatives to mail my licence from India and I could take that with me to the exam....

by the time u apply for driver's lis or u get a lis. from india i would advise to get a state id done ,it works just like driver's lis but u can't drive 🙂 thats the best id form.

Usually, the state dept or Social Services also issue an ID. You have to fill-out an application and it costs about USD 15 or so to apply for an ID. I have seen some people use it....You can try that...

Your passport is plenty,actually even my friend had only passport as her only photo ID,and it worked out for her.

yes, i remember few ppl gave exam with one id . the examiner will scream that she is with a student with one id at the time of signing in the examintaion hall, her supervisors will come and check the id one or two times! they'll let u give exam for sure.
so , just don't worry about the id part concentrate in studying!!

They didnt even check my ID's , well then again I took the exam in Canada.

If u have one photo id that should be fine because they usually check only one id.they say that they require two ids but it is ok if u have one id.they checked only one when i took the exam.

They do specify that they require 2 photo id's. and when i took the exam they checked just one photo id for me (my passport). but it is better for u to call up ada and check with them regarding the 2 nd photo id. normally at the dmv they issue id's for proof of address.
it is also ok if u have a drivers license from your country , it need not be an international drivers license.
