Ideally, for the average applicant how many dental school interviews should we go on/get to feel ok?

I will preface this by saying that every individual is unique and a lot of attributes come into play. This can range from personality and demeanor, to stats, and LOR and a persona statement. But marginalizing it all and just for the sake of averages, how many interviews should an "average" applicant get/go on to feel comfortable about their chances of an acceptance. I'm gonna throw this one to you @Scumbag_Steve - you seem to have all the numbers down to a science 🙂

As many as you can without having a scheduling conflict or going broke, for some, that may be 3, for others it may be 10. But yes, hoping Scumbag_Steve breaks down them numbers 🙂

Yeah it would just be nice to have a range/ ideal number. I mean I applied to 13 schools and if were to get all 13 interviews (highly unlikely), it just doesn't make sense to go to all of them. Likewise, going to just 1 interview isn't a comfortable position no matter the stats/how comfortable or a great interview one has

Most people will probably feel comfortable after 5. If you can't get in anywhere after 5 interviews that is solely your own fault due to lack of interview skills.

I would attend all of my interviews until I have secured an acceptance and then decide from there. How many that actually will require depends on each applicant.

For instance, last year, I interviewed at UNE and then LECOM. I got accepted to LECOM on Dec 1, but then got offered an interview at MWU AZ. I attended my MWU AZ interview since I would have rather gone there than LECOM. In January, I got accepted to MWU AZ (and later UNE). I was then offered interviews at NYU and Tufts, but I would have preferred to attend MWU AZ, so I didn't go the interviews them. If I had gotten an interview at UF, I would have gone, but sadly, no love from my state school.

Nice. Mind if I ask your stats?
