If I go overseas to work

Maybe if you renounce your citizenship. But in that case, you won't get any social security, that's for sure. If you want to have any life in the US, including getting social security and/or buying anything with credit, you might want to pay the loans back.

Do they really pay better in EU than in the US?
 
Interesting question. Can you make qualifying IBR or PAYE payments while working only overseas? And then 25 or 20 years later, would the loans still be forgiven?
 
EU countries pay professionals not nearly as much as the US does. So it would be an insane idea to work overseas AND paying loans at the same time...
 
One of my friends from med school (finished fellowship) and took a job at ARAMCO (Saudi). Lives like AMericans, clubs, parties, nightlife. Makes 3x the amount he would make here.

Will pay off loans and come back in 5 years. Loving it. 3600 sq feet house, $200/month subsidized. 44 days of paid vacation a year. No real work during Ramadan.
 
If I worked in Europe, how would the process of paying back loans be? Could I still use IBR/PAYE?
