Do schools allow you to schedule your interviews on any day of the week (so that, perhaps leaving friday open would be the best option so you can fly out thursday night and not miss the next day of class - saturday in this situation)? Or do you find, for the most part, that interview date choices are one set day of the week.

What have your experiences been with interview scheduling in general?

Do you have any other recommendations for building fall class schedules to minimize skipping class for interviews?

Thanks for all responses!

good question. I had to manage 20 interviews over 3 months of school and it was tough. I found that it was really school dependent. Some schools only interview on one day of the week while others are more flexible.

My best advice is to free up as many days in your week as possible. For example, I made it so I had class only on M, W, and F so I would always try to schedule interviews on Tues and Thurs but sometimes it was unavoidable if a school only interviewed on Fridays.

This. Two of the schools I received interviews from only interviewed on one day of the week and another school only interviewed twice a week.

Well I had classes that fell on Tues and Thurs so I thought that I wouldn't have to worry about it conflicting with class, and could schedule interviews on Fridays.

Of course...EVERY interview I had was on a Thursday. 😡 So...I missed 5 classes five times (3 MD and 2 DO interviews).

Great semester....

It depends on the school. Some schools only interview on certain days and those days might not be Friday. Also, while some schools let you pick from a bunch of dates on a scheduling application, some schools simply tell you what day your interview is without giving you a choice.

agree with what's been said.

the other thing is, you have to be really on top of scheduling the ones that allow you to choose a date - pretty much everyone has the same idea as you, unfortunately, so i found that the friday (and monday) spots were gone really quickly at most schools - i had to get time off from work to go to interviews, and a couple times the date i wanted was gone by the time i got permission.

Guys, guys, guys....
You're all missing the most important point. If you don't schedule classes on Fridays, you can go hard Thursday nights without consequences.
Interview scheduling for schools is random; you're going to miss stuff no matter how you schedule classes, so may as well enjoy it.

The problem is that even if you are able to interview on a Friday, you often still need another day to travel, which means you'll likely be missing at least a few Thursdays. One school I interviewed at held interviews on Saturdays, but that seemed to be the exception, not the rule.

I found that many of my interviews were on mondays. It made things more convenient 'cus I could travel leisurely on the sunday and have enough time to walk around campus and check it out, especially if I'm flying far away.

This.

If you're going on a lot of interviews, it's going to suck. I missed 15-20 class days in the fall for interviews, and it sucked. Do your best to try and schedule things as much as you can, but the fact is that you're going to run into conflicts.

The school I go to doesn't interview Fridays; that's the day they make their decisions. One school I interviewed at only interviewed on Wednesdays. Another only interviewed on Fridays and Mondays. Another interviewed every day of the week.

You're probably going to miss some class regardless of what you do with your schedule.

Lets say I'm going to be out of the country for 3 weeks and I get an invite with only days during that time. How flexible are they about changing dates if I have a legit reason?

They will almost certainly work with you. Many of the schools I interviewed at, though, allowed you to pick dates.

Hey NickNaylor, what happened to your UofChicago signature? Changing your mind?

It's there. Check his first post in the thread. Signatures only show up once in a page, from what I can tell.

Spread the interviews over different days of the week (i.e. some on MWF, some on TR) so that you only miss at most a few days of each class over the whole term. Many people before you have been able to do it and so can you. Don't worry about it.

If I submit my AMCAS very early (like first week of June) and am quick with secondaries, what is the earliest I could be interviewing? My summer classes end September 7th so I'm wondering if I will potentially have to miss summer classes.

I am interested in knowing the answer to this as well.

You can interview as early as late august, depending on the school, but usually september is when the first interviews are scheduled. TMDSAS schools start in August (and maybe earlier?) as they accept apps starting in May.
