Is it that much more beneficial to have a business degree?

Right now I am a junior finance major in college and, seeing as how optometry schools accept all majors, I am pursuing optometry. I am currently taking business AND all of the pre-reqs.

If far in the future I was interested in opening my own practice, does it matter if I graduate with a business degree or not? Is it necessary?

I'm wondering because if it doesn't make much difference I would like to switch to a science-related major and graduate earlier so that I can start optometry school.

I do not have a business degree so you can take my thoughts for what they are worth but I would suggest that it would not matter at all. It certainly wouldn't HURT, but it doesn't matter. Thousands of optometrists have opened practices quite successfully without business degrees. In fact, most fortune 500 companies were started by people without business degrees.

A successful optometry practice is 95% common sense.
