What about location in terms of "home?" Lots of people want to stay near there which biases their decision.

But there are also people out there that want to leave "home"... like me. 🙂 There are a lot of factor that go into choosing a school, but I wanted to take a look at the money one.

I'm not sure if everyone knows this but the financial aid people at USC told us money shouldn't be a problem if you take on an IBR loan (newly grads don't pay more than 15-20% of yearly income)+ extend loan over 25 years = loan forgiveness. They pretty much portrayed it as paying straight minimum (loan actually start increases because you dont even pay enough to cover interest lol) but after 25 years it will be forgiven anyway. It was their presentation to convince us that the high cost of going to USC shouldn't scare us away. I'm sure there's some fine lines to go over, but I'm just tossing it out there to help other people interested out.

I think predominant number of people still in the process of visiting/ interviewing at schools so not many can really say what are their favorites.

True, but most people researched the school before applying to it so they should have a general idea of the school they would like it attend.

I think this is a pointless question as money IS a factor. If money wasn't a factor i would just go on a life-long cruise around the world...

What if all the schools cost the same amount.... then money would not be a factor. I know that this is not plausible, but I am just trying to see what schools students would go to.
Scholarships (that pay for all of DS) would also allow you to pick the perfect school for yourself instead of money being one of the most important factors.

bump 😳
I start to feel bad about doing this after the first couple, but I want votes 🙂.

honestly, i feel that if money was not an issue many people would love to go to UOP. Get out a year early, great education, and San Fran! Yet in reality, it is one of the most expensive dental schools in the country, sooooo.....

Funny how votes for UoP skyrocketed right after you said that.

lol. Well it would absolutely be the best choice. From what i know of UoP as of now is that it has great facilities, is in a great location, has great faculty, and overall really good things. The additional incentive of being able to get out a year early is an absolute catch. Therefore it would make sense that after considering the above, providing that cost was the same for all schools, MOST would want to go to UoP. However, as of now, UoP is still one of the most expensive dental schools in the country, despite taking into consideration the additinoal year of potential income...

3 years is great and all until you realize that those 4 years of info is just crammed into the 3.
What the point of living in SF if you won't have any time to enjoy it? 🙂

Yeah, UoP is not that expensive when you factor in that you will be making money a year earlier and pay less interest on those loans.

I would not want to go through as much stress as I'm sure those students at UoP go through. I'm already finding it tough enough at a 4 year program - I can't imagine having to learn all this in any less time. Kudos to anyone that can handle that schedule.

From my understanding UOP cuts out all the fat in the curriculum and focuses on strictly dental curriculum. At some schools they go into so much detail about things that could never possibly remember, nor does it pertain to the boards- so it really is kind of pointless. UOP cant be that bad since they still have a high passing rate of the boards...and 25% of the 140 student class specialize. That is like 35 people!!!

UNC is my top choice after all my interviews. But I'm OOS so... we'll see. Dying for December

Do you know how many of those 35 people are going into GPRs or AEGDs? Just wondering.
