I'm a 4th year student interested in getting out and doing an international rotation in the winter/spring. I have a 4-week elective month in February and thinking about going to Mexico for the AMSA IF-MSA program, since it accepts students who speak both English and Spanish (my Spanish is weak).
Is there anything to be wary about in that i should pick another program?
Also, for those who recommend going to Mexico, what cities are recommended? I'm not looking for any particular specialty.

As an ex-IFMSA USA official and currently working in Mexico as an International Emergency Medicine Fellow I feel I can answer you questions pretty good. I know Mexico very well and the IFMSA program. Let me know what cities youre thinking about. Think about MedSpanish.com....based in San Miguel de Allende. It very safe and absolutely beautiful. Best thing is you get to stay in a sweet house and get intensive one-on-one medical spanish instruction and the hospital we all work at is great. We all hang out often with the Mexican Red Cross paramedics alot so that helps with the spanish too. Great rotation (in any specialty) and youll learn a ton of Spanish.
