does that mean you probably wont get one... or are you on hold but they dont change your status for that? gosh why dont they just reject me instead of keeping me hanging?

also if you are put on hold for a school, what are the chances for an invite when they do look at your app again? say for pritzker and GW?

If they get an interview and complete after you, that means that they're probably higher priority. Schools like to interview their favorites applicants first and keep the others hanging around as they compare them to future groups of applicants. That doesn't mean that you won't get an interview. The screening process for some schools can take months. In terms of "hold," it's generally a bad thing. Schools will look back at "hold" only after they're done looking through all the non-hold applicants. Still, it's possible to get an interview after being on hold. There are a number of success stories on SDN of people getting off the hold list after writing LOI's and updating their files.

The following is just conjecture, but I have a suspicion that a UChicago hold is pretty decent b/c they are notorious for their quick and numerous rejections early in the cycle. I'd keep hopes up for getting an interview there. GW holds, however, are given to a bazillion people, so the chances of getting an interview are pretty slim.

Truer words could not have been spoken. I am almost 100% sure thats why some applicants get interviews to places earlier. It seems like they take all their applicants , put a score to it, and invite THEIR top choice applicants to their school. However, remember, just becuase one school really likes you another school may not . This is probably why the "fit" of the school is really important - schools really want people who "fit" with the way that they are. Not all applicants are going to appeal to the same schools. So, don't be down if you don't get an interview right now and someone else passed you up. You very well may be getting called at a later date- they just want to see how THEIR "best" applicants are going to perform...and who knows...sometimes they can be disappointed with their performance...and thats where you will come in.

Some schools actually objectify the application process down to where they score you, you're ranked, and people are accepted based on that rank.
