Say you only have one month to study and if you can only use ONE book for step 2 CK in conjunction with USMLEWorld, what would you choose? Maybe discuss pros and cons..? thanks!

Secrets. The bigger books are a waste of time. I looked through kaplan, first aid after the exam and they did not have many more answers than secrets nor did they justify the time spent away from doing questions.

Step-up to Medicine (not Step-Up to Step 2) is a good book. I used it on my IM rotation. Using it now to supplement FA

Hi Long Dong,

can you please comment on why you chose B&W over FA, you got an awesome score, so I figure you're doing something right.

or it could be that he is Long Dong and he is just awesome when it comes to this stuff....independent of the book. Just b/c a book works for someone doesn't mean it works for everyone, but opinions from others are helpful. I would pick a book based on the detail it gives and the format you like. also use UW.

Quick skim of secrets - scoring 65-70% on World. 590 on NBME2.

This coming from a guy who spend 2 months memorizing FA for step one only to yeild a lowly 222. Im no Dong, nor do I have to worry about getting a sexy girlfriend. Maybe I am just better at clinical medicine?

Is it UW Secrets -- What is the entire name? Seems to be a good consensus that it's good, and I've only got 2 weeks left....

Do y'all think Secrets is better than Crush?

By the way, THANKS for the quick response!

same stuff different format so you might be wasting your money buying both. crush is laid out like FA and secrets is Q & A. it depends on preference, but secrets seems like a smaller book. It is a green and blue book (Secrets)

seems like FA is sooooo general, not a lot of help, but everyone else loves it -- am I missing something? I guess it's just me --

FA goes into enough detail in most areas. If anything, Crush and Secrets are too general. If you realy get the material in FA down, you'll be able to do well so long as you can apply your knowledge in the appropriate manner.

i thought secrets/crush was general also but i like the explanations in secrets. some of my friends who just used secrets/crush now wished they used something else also since it was very general. but to each their own just annotate your desired study aide with UW at least. i annotated my FA Ck with secrets and UW stuff. i found FA CK to have a lot of stuff in detail that secrets lacked. I would go to the bookstore and thumb through FA CK, Crush and Secrets and decide from that.

Hi Long Dong,

I liked B&W cuz: it was recommended by others who did well, it had a surgery section (FA doesn't), it covers step 3 stuff too, it was small enough to fit in my white coat so I used it threw out 3rd year rotations during down time, as a quick reference in 4th year rotations, and had a good derm section (which I think is important, because derm is so important 😀 ). I think it is more important to pick one source and stick to it and do tons of questions.

Thanks, but it's not because I'm "awesome" at this stuff, it's because I know I'm average and know I have to put in extra effort to do above average. And that effort comes in doing tons of questions.

During each rotation I'd do the pre-test and A&L question book for that rotation, marking the questions I got wrong and the ones I guessed on. Then when I took 6 weeks off from school to do interviews and study for step 2, I'd reveiw b&w, do the marked questions over again from pre-test and a&l and added UW. Thas was my strategy it worked for a forgetful dumba$$ like me.
