I am a Pre-Med Sophomore at a big-state university. I have shadowed three doctors, a pharmacist, and even an x-ray tech. I have volunteered at a nursing home+nursing station and am maintaining a fairly good GPA. I have also been informally accepted into a bio research lab this semester.

If you were in my shoes, what would you do to increase the strength of my application? Personally, I think I am short on nonclinicial extracurriculars. Should I start-join some clubs? I am already member of a religious organization, but I was interested in doing some intramural sports?

Any thoughts? I appreciate your help.

Looks like you know what it takes to matriculate, keep good grades, develop relationships with potential LOR writers...

Equally important, don't forget to live. Seriously College is the most fun part of life, or top 3 most fun... enjoy it, socialize, go out.. Go for that balance b/t premed stuff and living life...

Best of luck!!

Start constructing your story as an applicant. It's less useful to do 5 independent things than to do 3 related things so that you have a story about yourself. For example, you may choose to carry the nursing home thing further, take more initiative there. Do research on older people to demonstrate your interest in that. Shadow a geriatrician. Start constructing your image otherwise it'll be a jumbled mess when you start writing your purpose statement and start interviewing.

Relax and enjoy the process but keep your grades up. Decide early what schools you are interested in and make sure you are up to the requirements of that school. Believe in yourself and what you have done and take 99% of this website for what it is.😀
