I really don't know what you mean. Programs to not routinely call your letter writers, if that's what you're asking. We review your application, interview you, and rank you. Just because you hear nothing, doesn't mean there is a problem.

This may not be the same for smaller programs and more competitive fields. If I was only filling a single spot and interviewed 20 people, I might call around.
