I have an interview at Vandy on Monday. They emailed me a brief biography of my faculty interviewer's travels as a student and a doctor. This is the first school I've gotten something like this from. Do they expect me to look up her research / accomplishments on the vandy website/pubmed/google/wikipedia?

i mean is that going overboard... i was thinking of just maybe having some specific questions about what they did give me... such as "so you're a pathologist, how did you choose that field?" etc. Thanks.

Yeah, the second thing you said is what I would do. If I found out what specialty the interviewer was in, and especially if it was something I was interested in, I would ask a lot of questions about it (if there was time). But I wouldnt search them on pubmed and read all of their papers.

^i figured the same thing too, becausei really don't understand what they're writing about in their papers 😕

I interviewed at Vandy too. When they told me that they would send me biographical info, I expected more than an brief outline of my interviewer's birthplace and academic background. I did look him up online to prepare a little. I found it helpful because it gave me some questions to ask beyond the "So, why did you come here and what are the school's strengths and weaknesses in your opinion..." etc. However, he never brought up his background or appeared to expect me to be familiar with his areas of interest. So, in short, I did not feel quizzed, but it was nice to have some idea where my interviewer was coming from.

thanks! i was planning to approach that info the same way you did. good luck in the process!

Thanks. I hope that your interview goes well, and you find what you are looking for this year. 🙂

i agree as well. however, it is best to know their research which will help you prepare yourself for their specific questions.
