At least sticky a "style guide." As of right now this is a pre-dental forum, and I don't understanding why pre-dental students discussing "whatever" isn't appropriate. I'd argue that repeating questions that could be solved using the search function are far more worthless then the car thread or the dating thread.

Of course, if you closed threads re-itering questions that have been answered a million times before, AND all the interesting threads there would be like 3 threads on the main page.

Either let us post what we want, or tell us what we're not allowed to.

man it was a sad morning when all i wanted to do was check some of the interesting threads going on lately. all closed. i couldn't make any smart a-- remarks on any of them. dang.

Why not just make a permanant thread with a FADQ (frequently asked dental questions) section... so instead of doing a search and digging through all the wise ass comments, 3 year old posts and off topic convo people have in a thread, they can just go right to the answers... That would solve every ones problem.. but then again, we wont have any threads to leave wise ass comments in.. Like what would you do if suddenly all the "whats the difference between DDS and DMD" threads went extinct?? Or everything Joonkim posted was gone... (sorry I had to)

hang on wait. what is the difference between a DMD and a DDS?

....but talking about dental related stuff is so boring. 🙄

awww.... that is too bad. We are all just waiting around, what is so wrong with talking aobut things to kill time...

p.s. dating thread was hilarious!!

I say future dentists trying to find ways to cope with the difficulties of pursueing their career is "dental." Let them find love, whether it be with a member of the opposite sex or their cars.

A DMD goes to a community college and gets a dental degree in 2 years and a DDS takes a 3 week dental course to get a certificate... Thats the only difference.. lol...

(just incase someone stumbles on this thread in 2 years, that was a joke)...

hahaha....
2 years or 2 weeks. because you know it's going to happen.

My point exactly, this is a forum for pre-dental students, what we choose to talk about is our business. Save the locking for flaming, derogatory insults and the like, and leave us our "useless" threads.

If you want fun threads back quote this post!

And the dating thread is probably one of the most important threads on here. Perhaps ItsGavinC and Aphistis may not realize this, since they are either married or dating someone, but those single people need someone else to fall back on. Dental school is haaarrrrd. It'll be as much an intellectual struggle as it is emotional, physical, and psychological. Purely due to the time involvment required to properly train in the field. Those students who are seeking a significant other now would do themselves a tremendous favor NOW by creating a system of support while in school.

Having only threads that are DAT or teeth-related are laughable. We need to address numerous other issues that we would face while we seek to help fight the impending health issues. In a sense, take care of ourselves now, while we get ready to help others.

What's the difference between talking about a common interest in cars and the "any morman pre-dents here, any Asian pre-dents here"......Agreed, reserve thread closing for things that matter like when the previously mentioned threads inevitably result in bigotry.

the mormon thread was closed as well.

lookit, i've seen this many times from both sides of the equation. if you're a regular user and you don't like the way the forums are being moderated, threads like this are not the way to get it to change. If you're an admin/mod and you're told to disallow certain non-dental threads, then you're going to do just that, or they get someone who will.

I'm personally of the opinion that this forum should allow more non-dental threads simply because there doesn't seem to be any other good place for pre-dents to congregate in. Sure there is the doctors lounge, but we would have to share that space with the pre-meds, pre-opt, etc etc.

I suggest to all of you who are upset by all this to send a pm to the administrator requesting a relaxation of the rules or to have our own dental lounge forum set up.

remember, we're supposed to be adults here. let's not air our grievances like a bunch of juveniles.

The lounge is where you're supposed to go for fun/entertaining threads. This section of the forum is dedicated towards pre-dental related issues and questions. It's in the TOS contract you agreed to abide when you registered your account here. As for a sticky thread, I think there was one a while back but it was taken down for some reason. Maybe it's time for a new permanent thread dedicated to commonly asked questions. Anyone want to take the initiative and start up one? 🙂

Maybe its just me but I dont see the big deal in letting some non-serious related threads by. I mean these threads may not be related to teeth or GPA, but maybe we want to find out things about others like us who are going through the same things as us. So in a way it is pre-dental related...because maybe I want to see what kind of cars other pre-dental students drive, not everybody else on the huge site like lemoncurry said. I say they should either let us post "fun" threads or open up a pre-dental lounge, I cant imagine adding another sub-forum is going to kill SDN.

I also dont see anything wrong in addressing this issue in a thread, it consolidates everyones opinion in one place instead of sending a bunch of PM's.

I got on this morning to post some wonderful pictures of my new baby car and I COULDN'T. I was actually having fun reading the "non-related" forums- it gave me a break from all the other repeative stuff SDN seems to be.
Plus- it takes everybody's mind off of Dec. 1st-If keeping pre-dental students sane isn't "pre-dental" enough, I don't know what is. BUMMER!

Agreed....... And a live chat forum isnt a bad idea either.. I dont know if it's possible, but it would be cool.. this way we can make fun of each other in real time.

ah, come on guys, cut the moderators some slack.

you know, once in a blue moon (give or take a couple months) when they actually decide to you know...do their job, they have to make it look like they're doing something...

what better way to show that they're actually useful than to close the threads with the most amount of replies?

GENIUS!

i'm suprised this one hasn't been closed yet.

and...i'm guessing i'm gonna be banned for bad mouthing them. whatever.

bring it!

I think a pre-dent chat room is asking a little too much right now...would be nice, but maybe a future thing...baby steps here people. But the whole point is I think there is a want for a place for dents/pre-dents to converse about non-dental/non-serious stuff with eachother. Whether it be in this forum or in another subforum. I dont think thats asking too much.

Oh no I did not get a chance to post pics of my car on the tight whips thread🙁
I guess ill have to make another one. And we can maybe post some vids, that way you guys can hear the whine on the KB.

nice WRX and camaro...

these threads helped me relax and made me look forward to going on SDN. now, all i'm going to expect are "Check out my stats," "What is the difference between DDS and DMD," among other ******ed questions which COULD be searched for previous threads. it was just interesting to see what other pre dents drove or thought about dating. once in the lounge section, threads get bombarded by other (pre) professional students, and the level of interest for such threads become diminished.

anyone watching football? OSU with their fake and amazing TD pass.

Ya I was looking for you in that thread...I was all alone and needed some domestic love.

But back on topic...I want to hear what the admins have to say about it.

This forum is for pre-dental related topics. Not general topics regarding cars, women, clothes, or whatever else. The Drs. Lounge forums (drslounge.studentdoctor.net) were created for the specific purpose of discussing those items, as well as politics, religion, and other topics. They also have a chatroom.

Please remember that although your application cycle is nearly over (2 weeks until Dec 1!) and you want to blow off steam, other pre-dents are preparing to begin their application cycle and sifting through non-dental items in the dental forums is unfair to them.

If you have questions, feel free to message me or to review the TOS that you agreed to when you entered SDN. Without these measures in place the value of SDN would rapidly disintegrate. And please remember that moderators, supermods, advisors, and administrators are all volunteers, not paid employees. We have school, work, residencies, families, etc. to deal with on top of contributing time to SDN.

Thank you.
