So I just did a qbank question talking about how placenta releases hGH. This hGH stimulates decreased glucose uptake in the mother (to provide sugar for the fetus) and IGF-1. The answer pointed out how the IGF-1 was not for fetal development...but then what is it for? I guess I'm confused what the point of IGF-1 is in general and in this case....

Anyone got this down? I could use some help 🙁 🙁🙁🙁🙁

Insulin resistance in the pregnant woman is due to the release of human Placental Lactogen (hPL). Can you post the question from the Qbank that you're asking about?

IGF-1 is a downstream of GH activation. It's synthesized from the liver, and involved in growth as far as I know.

From RR Path, p. 30t - "Factors Involved in Tissue Repair"
IGF-1 --> stimulates synthesis of collagen, promotes keratinocyte migration

EDIT: ugh I can't find it I didn't write it down...I swear I'm not making it up! I'll keep looking lol
