Here is my situation:

I graduated from Washington University in 2002.

However, during my time at Wash. U. I took a biology class at the University of Houston. I got a B in that class. After I graduated from Wash. U., I decided to take another Biology class at UH, but basically just for fun. I took the class pass/fail. When the semester finished, I checked the grades and I had passed. Now, I was filling out my aadsas application and I went back to my transcript from UH. My grade option had been changed to "credit" and my grade was a C. I contacted the registrar and the professor. Neither are willing to budge. HOLY CRAP!! I was given a freakin C!! Is it an absolute must to send this transcript?? Im totally getting screwed here. Help.

Chill man. You may be getting screwed on that one grade but you need to look at your application as a whole. What is your overall GPA, Science GPA etc.? How did you do on the DAT? One grade in one class isn't going to kill you particularly if you have done well in other courses. If you don't send the transcript and they find out....that would kill you.

Im barely hanging on, thats the problem.

3.0 GPA
3.05 Science (The C will knock me below 3.0)

19 academic
18 PAT

Based on the numbers that Ive seen people get on this message board, its safe to assume I wasnt going anywhere to begin with, but now...it feels like a nail in the coffin.

Take the DAT again and you've got a pretty good shot. Currently you have a chance - it is on the small side, but it's there!

Hey rezdawg, I just recently graduated from UH. Do not sweat the "C." If you had Dr. Snider for Biology, realize that the percentage of his class that makes C's is roughly 55 percent.

One more thing, if anyone reading these threads is planning on transfering to University of Houston, DONT!!!

The classes are 250+ students and the professors cannot teach for crap. I usually had to buy two textbooks for each class in order to apply enough information to make an A in their science courses. My physics instructor was a genius. He would never explain anything in his class. He would come to class typically 15 minutes late and just ask the class what problems in the book we were having trouble with and solve them himself using advanced mathematical methods. Students would just look at each other saying "WTF" is this guy doing...

I ended up with an A because a 52+ in his course was an A. Shows how well he taught the material.

Many times they have you sign something that the school also signs that says you are taking a class pass/fail, so you by have chance have that? You co uld just take it to the dean of the school and show him that and he will have to change your grade.

Man that would piss me off SOOOOOOOOOO much. As a man of principle I would try as hard as I can to make your teachers budge. The bottom line is that you were registered in a PASS/FAIL course---right? So, if a grade is present on your transcript then a bold error has been made on your registrars behalf. Try and dig as deep as you can into your records. What you should do is go to your registrars office and try and obtain the paper work that you filled out in order to take the class PASS/FAIL---if possible. As long as you did fill something out and your registrars office/records department (or whereever the paper trail leads) is organized and has their act together you should easily be able to rectify this discrepancy. Notify AADSAS of your situation, and your schools if you want--but if you can get this cleared up before hand then do so ASAP. You have been botched by the system, now you unfortunately need to be reactive in a productive and formal manner. Do NOT give up! Good luck to you!

The courses I took at that school were not prerequisites for dental school, but I transferred the credits from the first bio class to my original school. So, Im afraid that when my school sends the transcripts to aadsas, it will have on there that I took a class at UH.

Rez,

1. you HAVE to send that transcript out
2. try if you can change the grade to a P again... go to the dean and explain your problem.
3. RETAKE the DAT and shoot for 20's accross
4. in the meanwhile, do a post bacc program and aim for 3.6 GPA
5. good luck to you

Thanks for all the input guys.

Is there a place where I can check school statistics for gpa and dat scores?

Ive have a guide to dental school book that lists averages. Most schools list their DAT academic average around 19 with PAT around 18. Are these stats old, in your opinion or do people actually get in with such numbers?

Why is everyone telling RezDawg to take the DAT again? Isnt 19/18 a pretty good score? I have similar stats and a 20/17, should I take the DAT again?

Re-taking means higher DAT score.
If that is the case, obviously higher chance to get in.
Though, I am not sure if RezDawg should retake it just for this year because he/she may have other things going on.

People here are psychotic. You can retake it if you want, but there's nothing wrong with a 20/17.

Does anyone know offhand what schools are very Pro-DAT and which ones are very Pro-GPA?

pro-dat: UOP
pro-gpa: every canadian school
