This is most likely proof that I am indeed insane, but yesterday my cheerleading squad finally convinced me to take one last go at getting a DVM. After all, in reality, it's not about me - it's about helping the critters and the people who care for them most.

Now, hopefully, I can get it all taken care of by the deadline!!

Best of luck to ALL during this cycle (with a special nod to the non-trad reapplicants)!! :luck::luck::luck::luck:

Good luck!! You CAN do it!

SO glad you're back! Missed ya! 🙂

Yeah! Best of luck this cycle! You can do it! 👍👍

Whoo! Cheering for ya!

This legit made my day!! You've got the biggest cheering section around, LMMS! I know you can do it!

Woo hoo! And you still have over a month till the deadlines. You can definitely have everything in by then.

Sending you tons of luck! You deserve another shot and this is definately your year!

Now that the Earth has stopped shaking, the water has receded, and the level of mayhem has decreased back to baseline, I have the opportunity to post again; and wanted to say that I cannot thank you guys enough for the support!!! You're simply awesome!! :biglove:

When I got the 'final' word on everything at the beginning of this month, I proclaimed defeat and was fully ready to throw my hands bitterly into the air and walk away. Heck, I even threatened to go into human medicine... I really had to give this lots and lots of thought; and will admit that I was coaxed into the process. But now it's obvious that I've made the correct decision.

Given that I was set to give up, I never did ask for a file review. So, I've put out a couple of feelers to some institutions to ensure that I apply to the 'right' programs this year. Also, I just signed up for animal nutrition with my friends at the OK Stillwater correspondence site so that I'm able to apply to some programs I wasn't able to in the past. Next up, the dreaded VMCAS application. Please, someone tell me that they've finally come to their senses and saved the course work entries. The thought of putting 230+ credits back into that nightmare gives me the willies! :scared:

Thanks again, everyone!! :biglove:

PS - Since I'm aiming for a positive outlook, I felt an avatar adjustment was in order.

Keep dreaming. 😉

Thanks. Found out the sad truth last night. Oh well... Besides, when I typed 'VMCAS' and 'come to their senses' in the same sentence, I knew it was wishful thinking. Carpal tunnel, HO!! 🙄

Aw, thanks SO much you guys!! 🙂 Also, hope that things are off to a wonderful start for you!!!

I would love to hear how this came about if you have time to fill me in 😀

Really, it's simple... When all was said and done for me in very late July (finally got word that the VPH program was full and they wouldn't be calling off the wait list), I walked around with a little cloud of smoke over my head for a while. I had a couple of colleagues ask what I was going to do with myself and I was so bitter I threatened to take all my time and effort and head off to human medical school. Oh the humanity!! 😱 You would have thought that I said I was going to head out to club baby seals...

The looks I got along a point blank 'My God! You wouldn't!?!' got a small band wagon of colleagues together for an intervention of sorts. They pretty much convinced me that vet med is where I belong; and that I shouldn't give up because they all firmly believed that I could (1) help them or (2) follow in their footsteps. Then came two more voices that tossed me over the edge... The first was my personal veterinarian (a UPenn grad) for whom I have never worked directly. The man actually looked over the exam table at me when I told him the news and he replied with 'I've got a right mind to give those people a call and tell them they made a mistake'. The finally capper was that one of my friends/colleagues was actually more angry than I was that I didn't get accepted. I would expand, but the language is a little too 'colorful' for SDN. 😉 Regardless, this reminded me that, in the end, my getting a DVM isn't all about me - it's about the people and critters who are counting on me to get it.

I've been at this a long time now (10 years) and it simply amazes me that I have all of these people still riding the bandwagon and waving flags for my success. And then there's all of you here on SDN... I am so lucky to have the people in my life that I do. Really, if I can do it this time, I'll know that I didn't do it alone.

I'm sure you are already all over this, but MAKE SURE YOU GET A PS FROM THIS GUY. He's willing to fight for you. That's the sort of PS you need. Trust me.

Welcome back! Us non-trad re-applicants have to stick together, right? 😀

Methinks the anatomy lab formalin is killing your brain cells 😛

Formalin fried, or not, I get where you're coming from, TT. Thanks for the advice! However, because I've never worked for him, and he's a first time daddy and thus totally exhausted, I didn't feel right asking him for an ELOR. The good news is that three of the folks writing ELORs for me are those who have done it in the past and two are more than willing to 'fight' for me. Heck, I'm sure that one would even throw a punch or two if you let her! 😉

Thanks so much! And you got that right fellow Jersey Girl. 😎

With any luck I'll hopefully meet you (and a few others) during an interview this round.

Good luck with your apps! :luck::luck:

:xf::xf::xf: For ya. This WILL be the year!!!!

Hellz YES. What's your application roster look like this time around? Hopefully we'll get all the same interview days. 😉

A grand day out in Columbus sounds like a blast to me!! 😀 As for the roster, I've kind of tossed myself here and there; so I'll move west to east...

UC Davis, Oklahoma State, UW (Wisconsin), Ohio State, UPenn, Tufts.

Hope some of those names are on your list too!

And now I should stop procrastinating and get back to my regularly scheduled insanity...

Haven't been on the forum in a really long time, and then got on and saw your thread. I am really pulling for you, LMMS!

Cool, I'm also applying to OKSU, Ohio, UPenn, and Tufts. Also throwing in VMRCVM, Illinois, Purdue, and Washington.

Now maybe I should actually work on some applications this weekend! 😱

I'm sure you'll get in this year, but in case they make a mistake, we will all be upset as well. There's always a couple of people every year that we're all flabbergasted didn't get accepted, and this year you and DVMDream are definitely on that list for me. Adcoms def do make mistakes (they're only human), but if they do it again this year, I'ma be waitin around the corner with a baseball bat.

Agreed in BOTH cases. I have so many good thoughts coming your way!! Put forward a great application, start practicing those interview skills, maybe practice some voodoo skills to make sure you app always ends up on the top of the stack....

Thank you ALL!!! I'm pulling for a host of others as well given that I think it would be more than great to have a couple of determined others around me! Minnerbelle - Louisville Sluggers are fine pieces of wood. 😉 And, heylodeb - voodoo is certainly not a bad idea. Think I'll give it a go - it will save me from having to call up the Jersey muscle. Let's hope it works!!

Thanks again, everyone!!!! :biglove:

And don't forget about Ross...I am down here now.
Just completed week 1 of Vet school.
If you have any questions regarding the school feel free to ask away.

Thank you very much for the offer! I really do appreciate it. And given that you're from NY, you would probably be one of the best to help me out!! However, even though I dig the idea of Ross (Vervets at the beach bars - hello?!?! :zip:) going abroad isn't feasible for me at this time. Even CA may end up being a stretch if that's the only option I have when all is said and done. Thanks, though and hope that you're enjoying your new surroundings!!!

Great to see you back! 👍 GOOD LUCK!! :zip::zip::zip:
