Im trying to learn about the process of matching into plastics. Few Quik q's
1. Is theres such a thing as a direct match into plastics ie not into general surgery? (is this the diff b/t combo and integrated programs?)
2. If so where?
3. Should i b looking at a specific schedule for electives in 4th yr?
4. How rigorous is the residency vs gen surgery or ortho?
5. What are the relative costs of starting a private practive as a plastic surgeon or what are other career options post residency?

I appreciate all responses!!!

i u/s the diff bt the integrated vs combo after reading some more posts...still curious about the workload diff b/t int and combo.

also a dr friend of mine told me that plastic surgery wont exist in 20yrs...anyone have thoughts on where the future of this field is headed, future for growth, etc???

Well your doctor friend is making a ridiculous statement. The spectrum of plastic surgery is huge and in 20 years people will still want cosmetic procedures done as the quality of implantable devices will improve, there will still be reconstructions of facial trauma, skin cancers, etc... So to say that plastic surgery will no longer exists is the same thing as saying that there will be no such thing as vanity, skin cancer, or traumas of any kind in 20 years.....
