Hi there. 🙂
I'm a 2nd year at St. George's. Congratulations on getting accepted, are you coming down in August?
If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me. As for the island life, things run slower here. So take some of your expectations and throw them out the window on the plane ride over here. And speaking of plane rides, you'll probably want to book your flight with American. You can fly Liat, but it's not the best choice for the first time you come down here. Liat has very small planes and there's usually more problems with Liat then American Airlines. Also, don't worry if your bags don't arrive the first night you come here. I've only had it happen to me once (would have happened to me twice but I bribed a guy in barbados to put my bags on the plane), but some of the other students have it happen to them pretty often. So make sure you have important stuff with you in your carry on - Spare change of clothes, bathing suit (Because you are definitely going to want to enjoy the beach when you get here), towel... I also hear that Delta is going to start flying here too, so if that goes through, Delta's pretty good too.
You can get most of the foods you're probably used to at the grocery store. But on Thursdays and Fridays are the best times to go because the grocery store gets restocked on Thursday and by Monday/Tuesday there will likely be no eggs/milk/cream cheese etc. They have a Subway and a KFC here, but I have not tried KFC yet because I'm not a huge fan of it. Others have and they say it's pretty good. It's expensive though, and especially with a new tax the Grenadian government put on almost everything (called the VAT), things can run pretty expensive here.
I'm pretty happy with the school. I mean, with every school there's pro's and cons. Mainly the cons are living so far away from the States, adjusting to island life, private loan hassles, and taking the PAVE/ECFVG. It's a third world country over here, but it's quite an experience. Overall the professors are extremely supportive and there's always tutoring available. It's not a huge weed out program like some other Caribbean schools, and generally speaking, the students seem to do well here.
Anyway I've got to stop procrastinating and get ready for class. Take care!
