And it's all stemming from my second semester of english required by most med schools.

For my critical thinking portion of my IGETC (before I knew I was pre-med) I took Argumentation and Debate, cause I was SICK of english. Im now going into my junior year and transferring from a Junior College.

I would like to know what your advise would be.

I can graduate with my bachelors in spring 2012 and take my second semester of english DURING the application cycle.

OR

I can finish second semester english during my junior-senior year, walk in the spring of 2012 with the guarantee to my school to finish the last of my major class(es) that was bumped because of the english class the fall of my application cycle. I'm not sure if the school will give me my bachelors with this guarantee, but I know they'll let me walk as students have done this before.

Which looks better during while i'm applying?

Honestly, dude, do whichever one is more convenient for you. I took O.chem Lab II during the summer after applying, so schools didn't even know how I did on that. I doubt they'll even give it a second thought.

I see there are ALOT of views but just one reply, and I want to reiterate that I dont want you guys to tell me what I should do, rather what you all think med schools will be more inclined to accept. Or does it really even matter?

That reason I am tripping about this is because 2 semesters is a PRE-REQ at some schools, and while Ochem has quite a bit more clout in your application, I dont think schools would be too keen on you finishing your second semester of Ochem during the application cycle. (Assuming you're a stud and took the MCATs without second semester ochem.)

I doubt most schools are going to care when you take your English class as long as you do. I wouldn't lose too much sleep over the decision- either way, I don't think you'll have a problem from a medical school's point of view.

Do you have an AP English credit? That will count at most (but definitely not all) schools.

Also, no one will care if you haven't finished your second semester of English when you apply.

Hello, do you know if there a list of schools that accept AP credit for the second semester (it's on my college transcript)? I know I could just email them all and find out (which I likely will have to do), but I just wanted to see if anyone had such a list. Thanks!

Most schools accept AP credit for both semesters of English. Some schools don't take any AP credits at all. Vanderbilt doesn't take any APs and wants all prereqs to be completely by fall semester of your application year.

Thanks for the help! Wow that's pretty strict for Vanderbilt, what if you were taking the orgo lab sequence your senior year or something? That was pretty common at my undergrad?

But it seems like the majority of schools just require pre-reqs by matriculation right? I'm trying to decide when/if to fit in that second semester because I have 1 class and 1 semester AP credit. I assume Greek and Roman mythology (classified under Classical Studies) wouldn't suffice as English even though we did a lot of writing?

Almost all schools just want you to finish the prereqs by the time you matriculate, yes.

Sometimes you can substitute a writing-intensive class for an English class (Vanderbilt lets you do this), but you have to take that up with individual schools and you would be better off just waiting to see if the situation arises to address it.
